I just had a 6.5 Creedmoor upper built on a 24", Ballistic Advantage, heavy barrel.

I've got a PST GEN II 2-10X32 FFP on the .308 upper, and I'm pretty happy with it out to about 1000 yards.

I'm wondering what the gas gun crowd thinks is an optimal and afordable ($1K range) piece of glass for the new upper.

My first thought is that the 6.5CM stays SS beyond 1,200 so I should go with something like I'd put on a comp gun, but then I think it's an AR10 and not a precision bolt rifle...

What do yall run on them?

I put one of the Bushnell Elite Tactical DMR II 3.5-21x on my 18" 6.5 Creedmoor AR and have been really impressed with it. While I have no issues with the glass quality, that's probably the most common complaint I've seen from reviews of this optic. However, the major selling points for me were 1. The G3 reticle, and 2. Bushnell's reputation for their ruggedness and accurate, repeatable adjustments across their range (DMR II, DMR II Pro, XRS2, LRHS, LRTS, etc). At $850, I feel it's a fair deal for a scope that will probably outlast & outperform me.

Keep in mind that there are a LOT of worthwhile options around the $1,000 price point, so it will mostly come down to your personal preference in reticle choice, magnification, & features. I compared the Athlon Cronus & Ares ETR lines, Vortex Viper & Razor lines, Leupold VX5, Trijicon Credo, and Burris XTR series before settling on the Bushy DMR -- mostly because the Midway clearance price pushed me over the edge.

I really like a Bushy 3-12 LRTSi on a 6.5 AR-10. Like you said, you could put a bigger, heavier "comp" kinda scope on it but it is an AR-10 after all. Mine had the 3-12 LRTSi and an offset rds, great setup for <1000 yards (mine had a 19" barrel).

If you can swing $1100 buy a first gen Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29. Much better optic than the PST’s and while the bushys are a solid reliable optic the Athlon is just as reliable and has noticeably better glass. You will appreciate the extra mag on the top end and unless you are hunting at close range you won’t miss the bottom end.

Maybe get the same reticle in your current PST2, but in a higher magnification (3-15 or 5-25).

Or, the new 4.5-18 LRHS2 from GAP for $900ish shipped.

How old are your eyes ?

My old as_ eyes, prefer more magnification. ( IE 6-24 FFP )

Euro Optics has various Vortex scopes on clearance. And I'd use a 20MOA mount.

I prefer my long range scopes center crosshairs to be "open center" ... I don't like covering my POA with the crosshairs )
So this one would be a first choice for me ( MOA )

This pic shows what I mean... ( .25 Open center )

I run a Khales 6-24 with MSR reticle on my AR10s but that exceeds your budget. It is a great scope for this type of stick though and I believe you can still find Gen 2 versions for a few hundred more than what you stated for a budget

To me it is a precision rifle if it shoots like one. I'd shoot it a little with a spare optic, see how accurate it is, then go from there.
