I've recently morphed my M1A Bush Rifle (18" barrel) into an EBR via the Sage Mod 0 chasis. I went ahead and purchased a Sage cantilever scope base and some Badger Ordnance rings for the set up. Originally I was planning on getting one of the SWFA SS 1-4X scopes to mount on it. I've even thought that having two scopes to swap out might be a good idea. Since then I changed my mind and went with a SWFA SS fixed 10X. The purpose being I'll probably be punching holes in paper and ringing some steel informally for the most part. Twice a year out local club hosts a Scoped Rifle Match. I plan on shooting at least one match with the EBR.

I guess my wishy-washy self has started thinking that a scope in the 3-10X range might be a better option for this rig. I was specifically looking at a Leupold Mk 4 LR/T 3.5-10X40.

Any thoughts on scoping this particular rifle. I'm happy thus far with my sub-MOA groups at 100 yards.

i always like a variable better than a fixe power scope (unless your ranging and dont wantot pay for ffp)

that said there are alot better ways to spend your money than the mark 4

Re: Optic suggestion - EBR

I think I'd like to stay under $1000 for this project. Might have to trade off something to get to that or a slightly higher price point.

I was looking at a used scope that had M3 dials. Looks like elevation adjustment is 1 minute. Seems pretty coarse for a long range scope. Not sure I'd be happy with that set up. M1 dials are 1/4 minute.

Re: Optic suggestion - EBR

I second the variable opinion.

As for 1 MOA adjustments, that is course, but the most you'll be off is 5 inches high or low at 1,000 yards. That's definitely usable. I have an old Ultra M3A with a M118 bdc turret that works very well. The fixed 10X is fine for target shooting, but it is a handicap for closer targets and movers. 1/2 MOA would be a little better, but mil (approx. 0.36 MOA) is best, IMO. Especially if you have a mil reticle to match.

I also agree there are better choices for the money than a Leupold Mark 4. I have a Leupold Mark 4 M3 3.5-10x40 that I bought from Premier Reticles around 10 years ago. It has a FFP Gen2 mildot that I really like. The 1 MOA turret hasn't really been a handicap. I can use the reticle or laser range finder to get the range and then dial the range on the turret. I can dial down the mag to 3.5x when I need a bigger field of view. It is a good enough choice, but there are better choices available today than 10 years ago when I bought it.
