For a couple years now I've been bragging about this cool way I've been mounting optics on my rifles, but lately, have been shooting greater distances, which may have uncovered a flaw in my method.
I have a bench sitting 20yds from a shed on which I set a rifle with the optic loosely mounted.I have a few small levels that I got out of a cheap Harbor Freight POS, & busted all the liquid filled cylinders out, which I use to level the rifle. In the shed I have a thick nylon yellow cord suspending a large brick, which I use for a plumb bob. With the rifle kept level, and the plumb bob bisecting the bore, I rotate the optic until the crosshair is flush with the plumb bob. I torque the rings down in sequence while maintaining level & true with the bob.
Lately, past 500yds with no wind, Ive been noticing shots consistently impacting to the right & low right, on multiple rifles. I Have suspected other factors for a while, but the consistency of the pattern has me thinking that my mounting method may be flawed. Input?
