Rifle Scopes Optics Planet SUCKS

I am not an Optics Planet fan either, MUCH better businesses around to spend my money at.

It is just downright deceitful how they show items in stock prior to purchase, then you get the order summary showing a backorder of however long.

@Murderface it means you will wait..
How long you will wait is any body's guess
Do you mean "wait" as in "we have it reserved for you in stock at the time of purchase, but we are currently swamped with orders to get around to it?" or do you mean "wait" as in "we just put your order on backorder without your consent?" My current status is "Item Ordered."

That means they ordered it from a third party and it hasn't arrived at OP. OP doesn't maintain that inventory. They have links to third party distribution partners and those third parties are responsible for telling OP what they have in stock. What you see on OP's website is data entered by a third party that may be out of date or otherwise inaccurate. When something says "In Stock. Ships in 1-7 days", that means that the third party is estimated to take that long to get it to OP. It may even mean that the third party partner itself needs to order it from the OEM...there is no telling how deep the rabbit hole goes. I've been told by OP customer service that the most likely way to tell if something is in stock is if there is a specific number listed and if that is low. If something says "1 in stock" (but no more than maybe "3 in stock"), the chances are that the distribution partner is actually keeping on top of its inventory data. When something just says "In Stock", that doesn't mean a thing with OP.

So your "Item Ordered" means exactly that. Someone had to order it from somewhere and there is no telling how long it will take. There may or may not have been stock readily available. You just don't know. Personally, if you need it ASAP, I'd cancel and order somewhere else. I once needed something that was "Item Ordered" and it took two months even though it was supposed to ship in 1-3 days. I ended up cancelling and ordering directly from the manufacturer for a significantly higher cost. Funny thing was that three days later it arrived at OP, but I didn't care. Screw them.

I pretty much just did the same thing. And the fact that they shut down customer service (wont answer the phone and took away live chat) rubbed me the wrong way. Im done with them.

Well... still waiting on about $450 from a return they've had in their possession since December 23rd. I've had to reopen a CC claim about it and I filed with the BBB. I hate being "that guy" to file with the BBB -- not that they're going to do anything, I'm sure -- but... this is ridiculous.

I sent a return to them for scope rings after the return of the scope was received by them and that was processed already. This is ridiculous.

And meanwhile, I've ordered numerous things from Midway that were given a tracking number within hours (including a revolver) and were in the mail the next or same day. And I've had to return something that didn't fit and it was refunded the day after they got it in the mail!

Midway isnt any better I was trying to order something from them online and seen the price was set as I guess a sale I tried to order 5 or 6 times and the price would change to a higher price when it hit the cart so I called them and the gal told me I could not have it at that price was about 10 bucks cheaper and she just changed the price on line I told her that it was advertised cheaper and they have to sell it to me for that she said if I wanted it Ill have to pay the extra I told her that is bait and switch this is the third time I have had this crap happen with them and just let it go the first two times I said I want to talk to your manager she said no and hung up on me I was a little pissed and called back and got ahold of a supervisor and he said the price is marked even she changed it while I was talking to her he said he didnt care I told him to take his bussiness and shove them and cancel my account Ill never do bussines with them again.

I have purchased items with them that say in stock only to receive an email after purchase that says back ordered. I have also ordered from them and had great service. Its hit or miss

I have purchased several things from them that said in stock and waited quite a while. Inventory management is a joke to them but I did find a way that they respond...

I ordered an "in-stock" house brand part from them and when I got it 3 months later I found out that the "mil-spec" part was in fact, not. I left a bad review and within 24 hrs got a phone call from someone in some form of customer support asking me to explain the problems, they asked me to return the product so they could evaluate it and offered me a discount on my next order. I picked some much more expensive name brand parts to order, got the discount, and shipped back the house brand parts. It took them about a month to process my return from when they got it to when they refunded my money.

I guess I've been very lucky. I've never had any issues with OP. Brownells or Midway and have placed dozens of orders from each. That said I haven't ordered anything in the last few years.

Fuck Midway, they're garbage. Overpriced, slow shipping, messed up orders, bad cs, and have a "24 hour" price adjustment policy.

"24 hour" price adjustment policy?

What is that?

I had an ACOG in my shopping cart last night before bed. they said they had 24 of of them in stock. I got up to pay for it and they had jacked the price up by $100. Is that what you mean?

I just dropped it from the cart. No one likes being raped.

Midway? I've used them since the mid 90's. Over the years they have changed a bit. But still good service for me. Higher prices. Same with Brownells. Their price margins have increased a lot.

I've not had any issues with opticsplanet.

Apparently, count my blessings.........sure read about enough issues with them.

I'll need to remember that, to search alternatives when ordering scopes.

OP sucks. Just a not honest retailer.

I've spent thousands at Midway USA over the years and they burned me twice. After the 2nd time, I just stopped bothering.

Brownells... they charge more but they have NEVER burned me or ripped me off. So they get $$$$ of my $$$$ all year long. Smarter business practice overall given how much we spend regularly.

Orders from them are fine (the few that I still do with them) but their fucking shipping method is beyond rediculous.

Last order was for a simple AR platform Tubb spring. My options were the lowest cost shipping which was like 10% of my order total for a few ounce spring, or literally more than the spring cost to send it faster.

They ship it relatively quick and then it takes almost two full weeks in transit.

In the age of Amazon; fuck all that.

Places like Midway and Brownells are my last resort if some other place doesnt have it options. OpticsPlanet is just LOL no.
I get my orders from midway within 2 days sometimes following day and i am in TX. Regular shipping too

I ordered a 10” barrel for my Scar 16 4 years ago. At the time they showed in stock. After 2 weeks i called them. They gave me a run around for a few days and never shipped. I had enough and canceled the order. Had to follow up with them for another few days to get the refund back. After that never again...

Ordered a Radian SR25 charging handle from their Dvor webstore on December 18th- delivery got pushed from mid Jan to end of Feb to April 15th.

I live about 20 miles from optics planet. It's like a 30 min drive. I ordered something from them recently that was listed as in stock. It took a full 7 days to get it. It should have been delivered in a day max.
Ironically the same day I ordered something from eurooptic which is several states away and got the item in 2 days with ground shipping.
Optics planet is terrible.

So I just received an update on my 5-30x56 Taurus Rifle Scope order from December 2020.
I ordered a black friday deal in 2020, but the item was on back order, even though the site did not state that when I ordered. In Sept 2021, they finally sent me the order, but instead of my scope, it was a cheap red dot that cost much less. I returned for an exchange in Sept.
I checked the vendor site this morning, and they are in stock, but at a much higher price feom the Sec 2020 black friday deal of course.

Optics Planet just sent me this update, letting me know their estimate is now August of 2023 for the item!

Greetings from OpticsPlanet.com!

We understand that no one likes waiting for their gear, and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Presently, we are still awaiting delivery of the back ordered merchandise on your order. The estimated time for us to receive the product back in stock is 8/4/23. The supplier is working on getting us the product as quickly as possible and is expected to provide this merchandise to us by this delivery date, but this is an estimate and the product may arrive before or after the specified timeframe.

When additional quantity does arrive from the manufacturer, all orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that your credit card will not be charged until we are able to ship your order, and you may cancel any time before shipment. Alternatively, if you would like to explore some other options, we have a warehouse full of similar products and our representatives would be happy to help you find a suitable replacement.

Once again, we apologize for the delay and please let us know if there is anything else we can further assist you with.

Since Vector Optics has them in stock, they are obviously waiting me out so I cancel. This whole fiasco is un professional and very concerning about their level of service, and ethical business practices. They obviously do not care about "making it right".

They're the same as all the grey market electronics sellers in NYC. There is so much documented history about how bad OP is, it's hard to believe that anyone "buys" from them anymore.

I've ordered from OP 5-6 times, scopes and mounts, never a problem. But having seen so many of these warnings, I sure keep my antenna up.

I have never had a problem with them but I dont order things that are on backorder from anyone.
See, here’s where the issue usually lies with OP. They rarely even bother letting you know if the product is in stock or not, so you takes your chances and that’s what you get.

I personally believe that they, more often than not, do not actually inventory product and just order as needed based roughly upon sales, after the fact. That’s sure how it seems anyway.

I’m done with them personally. There are so many great vendors that are here on SH, that support the sports and will often give you a deal just as good or better, without the added BS crapshoot as to whether you are going to get it in the next year or not.

The OP admitted to placing the order on a backordered item. His choice at getting an out of stock item that was in high demand.

I placed an order with them on black Friday for a Zero press and it is being delivered tomorrow. And 10% off so it is the best price available.

It is not like these online companies have everything sitting in a warehouse, most is drop shipped from the manufacturer. I have several items that have been on backorder for 2 years at both Brownells and Midway due to the manufacturer.

Problem with this thread is that OP can stand for optics planet or original poster and sometimes will fit both ways.

I have been ordering parts from a variety of places. I'll search around trying to find the best overall price. (item price + shipping cost) I NEVER place anything on backorder. I've done business with Brownells, Euro Optic, Optics Planet, Midway, and a variety of other places. I guess it depends on what you order, and when, but generally speaking, most of them have been reliable enough that I have few complaints. Brownells is slow, as is Midway, and I've noticed that a shitload of stuff is sold out on many of the places... but I've found Optics Planet, and Euro Optic to be good for the most part. I've tried to order directly from the manufacturer at times, but some of them you can't order from. Surefire for example. They say "see dealer". I just ordered a grip from Daniel Defense though. Straight from the manufacturer. It was here in like 4 days. Same for a Midwest Industries rail I just got in from Optics Planet for my Sig 516 upper. Like 4 days...

Actually I do know, I have never had a problem with OP. Been ordering form them for over 10 years without a single delay. Like I said, ordered my new Zero Press last Friday and received it today. Area 419 had them backordered and they are the maunfacturer. Sorry you had a problem but that does not make it the norm. Most of the problems reported are when trying to get a sale or black Friday item that is in high demand and low supply. OP, Brownells, Midway et al are resellers and most do not stock items such as optics, they are drop shipped from warehouses so when the part is pulled, first reseller to get his order filled gets the item. If you want to a seller to have his hand on the item you want, by locally and only buy stock on hand.

ordered once from Optics Planet before I read all the horror stories. I waited about a month for something that was supposedly "in stock", so I cancelled my order, ordered from Primary Arms instead, and had it two days later.

PA is great, They are 15 min from me and I am picking up my BF order today. Be aware though that they do not stock everything they sell.

Sorry to hear that optics planet screwed you too. I will not buy a damned thing from them ever again.

How did they screw him ? He placed an order for an out of stock backordered item. And I don't know why anyone would get bent out of shape on a low end China optic.

Vector Optics®

As the top optics brand in China, I believe you already know Vector Optics very well. In fact, in the early days of its creation, Vector Optics was called Sunclear.

In 2005, Xusheng Shen (hereinafter referred to briefly as Stephen), the founder of Vector Optics, who worked in a Swedish company that time, took a strong interest in shooting sport and reflescopes. But at that time, although there are many scope factories in China, there are few Chinese brand scope or even none at all. He thought that since China can produce rockets and satellites, China can certainly produce high-quality optics too. Therefore, Stephen began to sell scopes in his part time during the next two years with his great enthusiasm.

Good to know that they have an apologist looking out for them. Every company needs one. You obviously didn’t read through the thread, so I’ll let you go on and spread your cheer without further trying to point out your glaring mistakes.

Stick with EuroOptic. Faster shipping, often better prices, easier site to navigate. I stopped going to Optics Planet when I couldn't find magazines larger than 10 rounds. I've heard, but cannot verify, they claim it's because they're in Illinois. I am in Illinois and every other place here sells standard capacity magazines. I won't shop at OpticsPlant. Stick with EuroOptic.

Yes, I have read this thread over the years and have yet to have a problem. Don’t order things that are on back order .
