What do you mean by "work"? If you mean stand up to the recoil then no question. I had one on my .300 Wby.

How far are you going to be shooting? What power ranges do you like? Do you want fixed? Do you want variable? Do you like 1" tubes? Do you like 30mm tubes? Do you like illuminated reticles?
I guess you can see where this is going... it is really a personal choice. However, if you really want advice, I have some good information to give you. Just PM me if you are interested. I can get you a great scope for alot less than $500, and you will be very pleasantly surprised!!

I want a scope for a hunting rifle.

I will also buy rings, so it's the same if it's 1" or 30mm
Will shoot at less than 400-500 yards
3x min, 12x max. I prefer variable, but fixed will be ok if it's around 6x
Iluminated reticle: I prefer a better scope with non-iluminated reticle to a not-so-good scope with iluminated reticle.

Schmidt & Bender - Zenith 3-12x50 with FD4 or FD7 ret. I know it will blow the budget but you won't look back!

I got a Vortex Viper 6x20x50 from Scott at Liberty. IMO, good value/features scenario and a nice scope for that price range. You might want to ping him..he's very knowledgeable. A search here will also get ya some info. Great place to learn from those more experienced than oneself. Good luck.
