Looks like a clusterfuck, goat ropin lashup out there to me.
My prayers and good feelings are out for any members here and everyone else that lives in that area, RCBS is there and many others.
I think they need prayers, the spring thaw and runoff is yet to come. FM

While I wish no real ill will towards any of the poor bastards, Cali is dead to me.

Not to mention it is in a heavily republican county...

Bad design + extra-ordinary situation ends up as a disaster level event...Wash-outs and water tunneling are very common problems in soil based dams.

Why on earth people want to build houses and towns below sea level, below dams, and in flood planes will never cease to amaze me.

Just seeing if my post count transfered. Hope the good Commiefornians are ok.

Ifin that thar dam goes them thar illegals er gunna hafta swin fer it agin .

FWIW - it is far bigger than that. Consider how CA got into this mess - aside from absconding with the tax dollars that should have maintained this to funnel into their bullet train / LBGT issues / illegals / straight up graft - they were coming out of a drought and they got greedy and stupid. The lake rose rapidly during December and early January. By late January they realized they needed to reduce the lake level. Day late and a dollar short. Guess what? They made the same move across all reservoirs. Therefore, when you look at the linked article understand that are NOT telling you about the down stream impacts on other water storage and regulatory systems - which probably haven’t been maintained either. This problem doesn’t go away until July when the snow is done melting.

There are many Infrastructure disasters lurking all over this country. This is due to the fact we have spent money on anything and everything but the things that actually support our way of life. I don't think it is accidental. I do think it is and has been planned. It was easy because We The People tend to be distracted easily. The #1 one thing that stands in the way of Globalism is a strong USA. Strong both Economically and Socially.

Their game weaken us with Debt Economically and Divide us with Partisan Politics Socially. Divide and Conquer. Americans tend to Unite in the face of external threats and we are a force to be reckoned with. But if our Economy is shit our ability to use that Unity may not be enough. Trumps America First policy is a very serious threat to Globalism. The last thing the Globalist's want is for us to fix our problems. And We have a lot of them, all self inflicted.

To quote Led Zepplin "If it keeps on raining levee's gonna break". Right now, Partisan Politics is the rain and American Liberty is the Levee. JMHO

My recent thoughts follow this line. On both sides. So much that I have become so sick of it I cant even watch any more. It seems to me that barring a minor miracle, and i dont see Trumpster as it, we are facing massive problems. We, the American people have no one to blame but ourselves for listening to the lies of the bankers and living an unsustainable lifestyle for so long. Didnt help that concurrently allt ehgood jobs were outsourced or automated, or engaged in a couple wars that pissed away 4 trillion $$$, but we elected that and then its successor looking for a silver bullet.

I wonder if this is a wake up to the recent secession calls in California.

Their argument is based on the fact that they are the worlds 6th largest economy and the US couldn't survive without them....

Just water under the bridge so to speak.

I feel bad for the Constitution minded Californians.

I think that area is for the most part conservative and voted that way. I may be wrong and it is full of libtards.
Either way I would not wish them all to be washed down the river.
I would not wish that on anyone other than Hillary and Chuck S. and Nancy.
I think there are a lot of good people out there in great danger and they need our best wishes and prayers. FM

I really find it ironic that California claims to be the world's sixth largest economy yet the are 780 billion in debt and on the verge of banckruptcy/insolvency . And now governor Moon Dick after calling Trump an illegitimate President is beggin for a Federal bailout for the Dam . Simple fix . Quit supplementing the seven dollar an hour illegal's jobs with Welfare and giving the illegals free medical and free education . Problem solved , instant surplus . Reduction in crime equals more savings in law enforcement , prosecution and housing these shitbags in our prisons . Win win win for everbody . Or Fuck California .

Damn, Yuba County is my home town. I'll never go back again, I like Wyoming too much now, but it's still home.

if something catastraphic were to happen, how far down stream is effected???

Mike, here's a bit of info on the dam bursting approximately 20 miles from Rapid City, SD back in 1972. The population was somewhere around 30K and thankfully the town is divided East/West by a high wall of rock which slowed down the rush of water.
At the time this happened, the reservoir that is now known as Pactola Res was about 1/4 is current size.

Well some thoughts.
some of you can sure can stretch a failing spillway to the cause of everything wrong in the world.
It isn't just California (although California does suck) but it is almost human nature. Build something that is so durable that maintenance is a second thought. The group of us might be unique here on the hide but how many here and how many people do you know that are prepared to replace the roof on there home. The bid i got was just under $10,000. I have known that the time was coming so been budgeting for a few years. Bid was about 2,000 more than i expected but I was prepared for that also.
the average American can't access $500 in an emergency. We learned that from our leaders, 19 trillion in debt doesn't come easy.
a bridge is built and because it will have a life of 2 or 3 generations, replacement isn't even a 2nd thought.

The damn was built in the 60's (1961-1968). For being the tallest dam in the nation I think a high school student could design something better. The man made part of the dam is not in danger and it does have a concrete center a few feet thick. The spill way and emergency spill way are on the natural mountain. Solid rock covered by 30-40 ft of dirt. And that is where the cluster fuck comes from. Any 5 year old that has played in a stream or gutter has seen what water can do as far as errosion goes. As the picture in the post above shows if the emergency spill way is undermined bu erosion the lake will drop by 30ft uncontrollably.
if the main dam broke it would be a wall of water 700ft tall that wouldn't stop until it hit the Pacific. Who ever had the bright fucking idea to let water spill over the spillway uncontrollably down a mountain is a retard.
If i thought for one second that California would be held 100% responsible then I would say fuck-em. California built the damn NOT the U.S. government. Perfect show of socialism. They built the damn, they get the water from it but they will ask for federal funds to repair it. I believe in tough love, so screw them.
as for that area being all conservative and such well that isn't all true. My wife's aunt lives there and she is a welfare sucking piece of shit.
Lastly, news says largest storm in about 10 years headed their way. Expecting 10+ inches of rain next 4 days. Warm storm so snow melt will be an issue also. Everyone laughed at Noah but I bet a few wouldn't be laughing now.

Army Corp is or will be involved in the repairs, so maybe they'll slow the process to a crawl (that's their specialty) and the dam will washout before the permits are in hand to repair so we won't have to worry about fixing it.

Something similar happened at Lake Wappapello MO. When the power that be don't heed warnings from the people who know what they are talking about, bad things can happen. Look up the pictures of the aftermath of the SEMO guys not letting enough water out of the Wappapello dam.

Some time back, maybe a couple of years now, I told you folks that this country, this system, was beyond repair. Maybe 2012? That the effective thing to do was to help the collapse along so that we can all get to the other end of this clusterf*ck sooner.

Well, nobody paid much attention to that, but it looks like we're getting there anyway, probably even sooner.

I'm just securing my own little patch. The way I see it, doesn't matter which direction I look, it's coming from everywhere anyway.

Years earlier, I suggested that the smart money was on laying low and waiting, then coming back out of the bushes after the worst of the winds pass through.

I'm still backing the idea. I have never seen anybody come up with an actual answer to the core of grunge that pervades this nation. For the last fifty years of my life, this world has just been a succession of lines crossed that can't be recrossed. My America died along with Jack Kennedy. If the Russians rally did F*ck us over, that's when it started. Everyone seems to think that finding reasons, finding answers, will save our butts or something, I think it's all just a fervently wished for distraction.

I expect I'll be long dead before anyone actually does find a real solution. Meantime, me and mine..., and you're all welcome to try the same. I'm too old to take this stuff seriously anymore. I reckon I'll just die soon enough anyway, and that'll be that.
