So I'm seriously considering using the new oryx chasis for my next build, and grabbing a 6.5 howa to put in it, I think this option is great for 300 yards, what does everyone think? Thanks for the input

Ya that mini action from Howa is a very solid platform for a hobbyist build with a budget conscious spouse looking over their shoulder. The current lack of significant options is really the only factor keeping them from taking off. Since I am building mine with Hunting first, target second and wanted to make it a multi-user capable I went with the Boyds new At-One thumbhole stock. Just got it all together over last couple days and today is break in/site in day. Weight is amazing even with the heavier laminate...feels good when I shoulder it off hand... I went a little oversized on the glass ( Nikon X1000 SFP 4x16) but it still comes in lighter than my 308 its replacing by a good 1.2 lbs. If it shoots like I think it will I may end up building my father one as well....since every time I get a new rifle put together and he shoot it he ends up using it more than I do!

I'm not sure why you guys would consider Howa actions.... All the Howa shelf rifles I've laid hands on suck! I mean their bolt sticks, aren't smooth, and they look cheap! Why not a Tikka action? They aren't that much more in cost but they're smooth at glass. ???

Tikkas suck you don't know what your talking about, mine is no were near as smooth as my Atlas actions.

No... You don't know what you're talking about. You're comparing a custom action to a stock action. The Atlas might be better than the Tikka but there's no way in hell the Howa is better than the Tikka... I own couple Tikka and I wouldnt wipe my ass with the Howa..

Your totally missing the point so I will break it down for you.
It's called positive criticism and adding some value to the thread or useful information.
Rather that stumbling into like a drunk belligerent teenager.
I don't recall the OP asking if it was the smoothest or best action out there but they certainly don't suck by your words.

Just to clarify I think the T3 action is very good I was just being sarcastic to prove a point.

Ooooh.... So the Tikka sucks per YOU because the Atlas is better but the Howa can't be talked about because Tikka is better? No I still don't get your point genius!

Everything we post is relevant. We are Talking about howa action on oryx versus tikka action on oryx chassis.

I will try and say this without being a total ass.
When you jump into the thread with no useful information and just say the piece of equipment the OP was asking about sucks your comment is irrelevant and not needed.
And no one was talking about a Tikka action until you brought it up and considering I don't think they even offer one with the correct bolt face for the Grendel let alone a barrel, again irrelevant.

Here’s my Mini/oryx. I installed a Krieger in 20-221 fireball on this action. Just using the oryx for this while a custom wood stock is being made. I have another 6.5 G mini that is also getting a Krieger(in 6 Grendel though)and will live in the oryx permanently after that. I like the combo.

I like the mini’s personally, and appreciate their size as being appropriate for the small cartridges i’ll use in them. I don’t have any issues with binding in the two I own, or the small quantity owned by others which I’ve handled.

@Supersubes what mags do you plan on running in the Grendel when it's in the Oryx? You modifying 223 mags? I've read that only the 4rd Grendel mags work in the Oryx.
The standard howa Grendel mags work like butter. The howa mini mags are basically two families. 6.5 G/7.62x39, and then all the rest such as 223, 222, 204 etc. The Grendel mags can only be had in 5 rd variants though. No 10rd version like the 223 mags.

All in about $1200. Not quite the budget rifle I was thinking of, but it checks the 6.5g mini action and chassis box.

I have an SSG08 and it's awesome compared to the howa mini action. Is this relevant? No. It's absurd to compare the two. The Howa mini is excellent for what you pay for though.
