Thank you. I can live with “not the best suppression” but not accuracy! As I understand it, the OSS claim to fame is in regard to (relatively) low back pressure rather than top-notch suppression numbers or accuracy.
That said, I always retain the right to be wrong, so take that with a grain of salt.
375 is hard to turn down....Thank you. I can live with “not the best suppression” but not accuracy!
Well I bought it mostly for my bolt guns, but if the accuracy is not there it will just go on the AR-10I have one, an early model, and spent a fair amount of time with the developers (former 18B guys) at Rifles Only on a couple occasions. The design was purpose built to reduce back pressure and thus the increased cyclic rate and wear on the M4 system. Other parameters were secondary. To that goal, they seem to have done well. It suppresses well, on par with several other cans I own. Not the best, not the worst. Blowback is minimal. While I don’t run FA in my guns, I did run some full auto with their cans and it seemed to accomplish their stated goals. I find it does not degrade the accuracy of my rifles (though I admit it does not see use on my bolt guns). The major drawback in my experience is that it is long and heavy. They do have a non-overbarrel model, which may be lighter and shorter. They also were not successful in their plan to register only one part of the modular design with BATFE, so that took some of the uniqueness of the design away. I won mine at a match, so I certainly have no complaints about price vs performance. I don’t think I would have paid retail for it, though, in all honesty.
My thoughts....
Doc
Thank you! This makes me feel a little better about it. The price was hard to beat.I have a couple of the (now) older OSS cans. I have a Helix 556 and Elite 762. Like previously stated that have a specific purpose and I purchased them because of what they excel at: low back pressure.
I purchased the Helix 556 for a couple guns that have notoriously bad blow back (Tavor X95 and Beretta ARX SBR). The Elite 762 resides on my gassy LMT MWS. They are far and away the best cans I own when it comes to almost eliminating blow back. Suppression is good (not amazing but far from bad). The down side to the old cans are the weight (heavier than most) and the complexity of build (they are multiple pieces). I have no complaints as far as accuracy goes. I also purchase them when they started their clearance sale and they are without a doubt they are a FANTASTIC deal....so much so I might pick up another before they are all gone.
For a bolt gun I still prefer my TBAC cans and I also have cans from SilencerCo, Dead Air, Rugged, YHM, and Griffin. They each have a specific role for a particular rifle.
Ill be picking up another of their 762 cans (probably their new QD series) for my Galil ACE 762x39 since they also are overgassed and dont typically work well with traditional suppressors. Their new line has started to address some of the issues of their older cans as they are less weight, cheaper and now single piece.
