Otto Noise Barrier/Etymotic Gunsport Elite

Contact OTTO. There is a warranty and they will fix it if they can. My battery case stopped charging. I had to replace it but I think it was like 75 bucks. Better than buying a whole new 300 dollar set

Rubber cover fell out of the left one. The right one is still there but the rubber is soft and runny.

Looks to me like chemical damage possibly. I would guess from sunscreen or deet.

ETA- I have had mine a couple years now and no similar issues but after having lots of plastic or rubber items melted from chemicals used to protect when outdoors I have become extremly careful about the products I use.

Aside from the button issue in the OP, how is the noise cancellation on these? I'm in the market for a new set and was considering them with custom ear inserts as my ear doesn't do well with the squish and insert style foam like insert.

My ear Dr. is selling Weston DefendEar, which are highly reviewed, but also proud on price.

It’s pretty decent but if you want to make it great, have your audiologist make hearing aid molds with the insert to slip on the ear bud. With the custom mold it’s much much better than the cone or foam inserts

That's what I'm having done. Custom inserts.
Was curious on the OTTO brand electronics versus the Westone which are 2X the price.

Hi Silverjay, I'm an engineer at Etymotic Research.

What date/lot code is lasered on the underside of your earpieces?

The original material for the button covers was replaced in mid-2020 for a material with better chemical resistance. Since the change, we have not seen any new earpieces returned for disintegrating buttons. We consider this a design defect and will honor warranty replacements for this problem past the factory warranty period. I will make sure that customer service is aware of this warranty criteria.

If you want, please message me an email address and I can get you in touch with someone to start the return/credit/replacement process.

DM'd you with a sidebar question as well.

I had a late 2019 one die on me inside the warranty period. They replaced it with no hassle. Sent a return shipping label and everything. Only (minor) inconvenience was to box up and drop off, then the ~3 week wait for return shipping, verification/diagnosis, and return shipping. I'd buy again, especially if they take care of the OP for the 3 year old set.
