Well we finally put together our first Badger 2013 action and I figured I'd give a little review.
At first when I looked at it I didn't care for the new cuts. Cosmetically I liked the M2008. After a while it started to grow on me a little though. It's just a visual deal but with the new cuts it appears like it sits lower in the stock at first glance but it doesn't.
The cuts just had a different flow to them especially on the non port side.
The main concerns were making it lighter over all and a better bolt lift. It's certainly lighter but it's never going to be a Rem 700 nor was it designed to be so lets move on to bolt lift.
Bolt lift was a major gripe on my part about the 2008 action. They did make some improvements there. It will still seem stiffer than a 700 but it's going to. Mechanically getting the bolt to lift and move the firing pin enough
in that distance requires a fairly stiff spring. In this case Marty went with a shorter stiffer spring. On the gun we had there were no issues with primer detonation and the bolt was nicer to manipulate.
I think what I like the most was the side bolt release. They did a sleek little job on it. Rotating it up on an angle as well adds just a little touch of spice the nerds like myself really look for.
The tolerances are pretty tight so because sparing on the Cerakote when you coat it. The only improvement that may need to be made is a larger retaining pin. I could be totally off base and I'm sure it's been
tested well its just smaller than I'm accustomed to. Only time will tell and this is just me rambling on about something I have no information on. Either way its my favorite improvement.
We didn't get to shoot this puppy but I have no doubt it will hammer like every other one we've put together. The Badger actions may have more steel in them making them heavier but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
As with the old 788 all that extra steel makes for a really rigid action which yields more forgiving accuracy at times it seems.
So as to no surprise it's another good product from Marty and the Mac brothers.
