So I took apart my savage FCP-K to fully clean it out. I know the accustock with the wedge are notorious for being a pain to put back together as you have to torque it just right or you will lose alot of accuracy.

To my surprise I had no accuwedge and after some research I have their newer model accustock with no wedge. So I decided to put it back together with the correct torque specs anyways. I drove all around town until I finally found a palce that carries in-pound torque driver and not ft-pound( you need them to be 40 in-pounds). I set the driver to 20 in-pounds to start the front screw off(the one in front of the magazine) and it kept screwing and screwing until I knew for SURE that it was overtightening. So I tried to untighten the screw and its so in there that I ended up stripping the bolt. The POS torque driver must have been a faulty one. So now I got the screw in there and have tried everything and can not get it out. I tried working the bolt and it works flawlessly, meaning the screw didnt go in to far. I don't plan on opening it up for a while, because it looks like the only thing that I can't access without opening is the trigger assembly, which I do not think needs much cleaning ever.

So LONG STORY SHORT does it matter (for accuracy)if you overtighten the stock bolts as long as you don't have the accuwedge model? I tried running a paper under the barrel and its still fully floated, and the bolt works flawlessly.

Any suggestions or knowledge on this would be appreciated.

so the hex part stripped out and you cant back the screw out? you will want 65 inch pounds on each i believe. i have mine in at 50 foot pounds. you want them to be the same front and back. you can try using the next size up or getting a metric set or a torx even and seeing if you can go a size up and then try tapping the larger size with a plastic or leather mallet and forcing it down in there and see if that will get it out. either that or drill the head out/off and then you can take it out by hand or use pliers to get the screw out. have another action screw before you start this. and get a better quality torque driver too

and just to answer, it doesnt matter really about the wedge. i think the way to do it is the action screws first, then the wedge. so with or without it, you want equal torque on the action screws.

Sounds like it's overtightened and stripped the screw.Only way to get it out and save the stock is drill out the screw head, remove the stock and pull out the bolt body, not too big a deal really.Try shooting and see how it groups....

ok, looks like Ill try to call savage and get a replacement screw. Its good to know that it shouldn't affect accuracy too much until I get it taken care of.
