Movie Theater Oz the Great and Powerful

Saw this last night with the wife. Overall I enjoyed the movie. The story is of Oz the wizard and how he came to the Land of Oz and how/why he became the wizard there. As far as prequels go, it's not bad. Some of the acting was suspect, but the story was enjoyable enough to overcome that. The 3-D was perhaps the best I've seen on any movie. In fact, I would say that the 3-D made up for any shortcomings of acting or script.

At theater prices today, it's hard to recommend a lot of movies. This movie has to be seen in 3-D or I think it will be less than the experience really is.

Just came from it. M agree with Max, best 3D Ive seen. On the way to the show I was thinking "They'll never match the original", but theysure came close. About half way through I was a bit disappointed but by the end all doubts were vanished. Go see it. Really well done. Maggot gives it a 4 bthp

I just saw OZ 3D last night. It was definitely awesome! Great cast and really cool 3D effects. And like Maggot says, the ending is really cool!

I went and saw it opening night with some friends. While I respect the opinions of the others I thoroughly did not like the movie for a second. I thought many of the punch lines were out of place and were very recycled. I thought the choices in actors/actresses were very good but the script was bad to the point that good acting was not feasible. I also saw it in 3D, the special effects were definitely good. How about the dirty lines towards the end of the movie. Totally unexpected and had me nearly in tears laughing.

My wife and nine year old daughter dragged me to this last week during spring break. Kinda slow in parts but was ok. Kid and wife loved it. Think it made me a little more gay and want to play with my three year olds dolls. Probably a good overall "family" movie though. Would have loved it if Mila Kunis's witch character was naked and they showed flying monkey sex.

Rarely do I "hate" movies. Sure I may dislike some or not be willing to watch the movie again.

I hated this one!!! I thought the previews were good and I should have been happy with them. Instead I relented and let the wife and kids talk me in to going.

I had such high hopes with this cast and could not be more disappointed. James Franco was one dimensional and borderline creepy. Mila Kunis was good until she turned. On a side note, her make up was horrid; I've seen superior artistry on "Face Off". It looked boxy and uninspired. As far as the rest of the cast....yawn.

I wish they would have stayed more true to "The Wizard of Oz" in using the characters from Kansas in Oz. I only saw his assistant and his old flame cast in duel rolls.

Lastly, the CGI was way too much and I found it hard to look at during most of the movie.

When we left the theater, the kids and wife couldn't stop vomiting how much they enjoyed it. I was stunned. Maybe I'm just getting too old and jaded in my aging.

I've got to agree with Paladin. I thought the movie was poorly acted; James Franco was over the top cheezy and one dimensional. Mila is hot as always, but the witch make-up was beyond terrible. Just because you can add CGI and make a movie in 3D is no excuse for making a terrible movie. Graphics don't make up for talent, a quality story-line or originality. This movie had none of those.

I took 3 girls aged 8-10 today to see Oz in IMAX 3-D at the new IMAX movie plex in town. They loved, it and won't stop talking about it. What pleases me most is that they aren't talking about the 3D effects, or the cool special effects, or the cute talking/flying monkey, or how the love story turned out --- they are talking about: a) how good triumphed evil because they believed and worked hard, b) that it was cool how the magician understood science, design, engineering like they learn in their "science explorers" club at school, and c) you can't just judge people on their appearance (like Rachel Weisz character). They really impressed me that they hit on the themes and message more than just the effects and the monkey version of Jar Jar Binks...

Holy crap it was loud though. I don't mind a good rock concert, but that theater was defeaning. Need to remember to bring some ear pro for the kids next time, had to stuff napkin into my neice's ears so she could stand it.

The 3D wasn't as annoying as most in the past. It seems like directors are doing less and less of the pointing/throwing stuff at camera (though there was still some of that), and have finally stared using 3D to enrich the backgrounds and add realism.

Blew...plain and simple....this film is a dog.

On the noise level, spent a long dinner with two of the nation's most influential (successful) class action attorneys on unrelated interests.
They brought this subject up, in theater related hearing loss as if it was already in the paper's headlines.
Its only a matter of time, these guys had all the noise dB data at the tips of their fingers, appears they have been collecting dB readings for quite a while.
They understood the dB differentials between the previews...the advertisements...and the features.
IF you listen to them, the theaters, production houses and equipment makers are all going to end up working for these folks.....
