When blasting and painting a 700 bolt with factory extractor do you leave it in and blow the sand out before painting or do you take it out? I have trouble removing one with out damaging it. Any tips?

Re: painting 700 bolt

Just got done painting mine. I am not saying I did it right but what I did was. Remove shroud / firing pin assy and the ejector. Blast it with the extractor in place. However I did not blast the bolt face. Then I taped off the bolt about at the lugs and painted the rest of the bolt.

Re: painting 700 bolt

We leave the riveted extractors in place, and remove Sako or M16 types. Its gonna need a new one if you remove it, and they clean out pretty easy anyway. Other than that when we parkerize/gunkote parts we strip everything down as far as it will go. Its ok to blast bolt faces (a light dusting) just not to linger and get the nozzle point blank. They are hardened pieces and can take it as long as you don't get carried away.
