Painting a barreled action?

Just got an impact 737 and CRB barrel. They installed it for me, stoked on that. But a silver barrel with nitrided action and black on black manners....

Anyone had any luck taping off the action and rattle canning?

I just want to take off the glare more then anything. But I dont have a barrel vise or action wrench yet.

Appreciate the help gents.

Find a local cerokote artist and they can take care of you. I have all my barrels done by the smith.

I use the high temp rustolium paint for bbq grills on all mine..... I do exactly what you suggest, tape off the action and hang it by the rear action hole in my garage. A good wipe down with acetone as others have said and you're good to go.... I used to cerakote them but they don't live long enough to justify IMO. Another good option is the alumakote by brownells, let it cure and it's a bit more scratch resistant that a rattle can. Easy to touch up either way.....

Just do it!

I bought an aerosolized Durakote and made a heat box using 1" rigid foam board, cut a hole in the top that fit my brass dryer(or a food dehydrator) and cured it. It's only good for a while once you crack it and it'll do 4-6 barrels. Slightly more durable than rattlecan. I washed the barrel with a degreaser, brillo padded it, and warmed it prior to application.

Degrease everything really well, tape off the action, plug the muzzle, and paint away. I recommend using the flattest black (I assume, since everything else you mentioned is black) paint you can find so that it isn't shiny.

Be warned though. Once you realize how easy it is to rattle can stuff, you may find yourself doing more and more of it lol.
