New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I just bought a cheapie Savage in .22LR to use as a trainer. It has one of their injection molded plastic stocks that is quite soft and flexible. Has anyone tried painting one of these? If so, and if it worked, what kind of paint did you use?
I bought the Savage 64f last year to drop some gophers on the farm I work for, and decided just this week after seeing Triggermonkeys thread on this forum. Used a selection of Krylon spray paints. Turned out pretty decent, outside of a horrid camo pattern.
Wipe down the stock thoroughly with a rag soaked in acetone. It will remove any oils/crud and will soften the surface of the plastic a little and help the Duracoat bond much better.
Another product that will help the paint adhere to a flexible material is something called Bulldog. We use it on polyurethane parts on cars because of the flex from the elements and had some really good results.
Keep in mind that the paint or duracoat will "spider" if too much pressure is applied in one area.
Said product can be found at Walmart in some places and I've also seen it at O'Riellys.
