Has anyone painted a laminate stock? I have a cz 457 coming that is wearing a laminated wood stock. It has adjustable comb height and length of pull and is already bedded. Function wise, it has everything I'm looking for but I'm not a huge fan of the laminate look. I'd like to rattle can and sponge it to have a camo pattern. Would I need to sand to remove the finish off or could I just paint over it?

Depends on the base color, but personally, I'd go straight to the base color.
The good thing about sponge painting is, if it looks like shit, sand it and go at it again.

Sponge painting is also backwards from normal painting. You start with the dark colors and work to lighter colors.
Have fun and take pics at every color change.
