Anyone compare these to the Celestron Regal 100mm? I know it's half the price, found for under $699 to the $1150. I know from the searches the Kowa is about tops but with an eyepiece it's in the upper$2k to 3k range.

For the most part, the 20-60x has pretty narrow FOV with short eye relief.

The real gems are the XW eyepieces. Pick up two fixed magnification eyepieces. Such as the XW 14 and XW20. It's worth it. I would look at the PF80 with the XW eyepieces, and compare it against the Alphas. You may be surprised by how well the Pentax and XW eyepieces stack up.

I had this scope for birding and it is nice, but the 20-60X eyepiece is crap. I bough the 17X (supposedly the best glass, favorite of star gazers) and it was easier to spot stuff than 40X on the zoom.

I still have it if anyone wants a good deal. email me.

I personally dont't think the MSC Zoom is that bad at all. I have the 10mm fixed which relates to 52x, and although the 10mm fixed has a wider field of view, the clarity difference is negligable, in my opinion.
OregonShooter, which are you selling? The spotter and eyepiece? Is the 17x a 30mm eyepiece with the 2" barrel? How do you fit the 2" barrel into the eyepiece inset on the scope? Curious.

Can't comment on the Celestron, but the Pentax is a competitor for long range spotters.
