PhoneSkope: yay or nay?

Yes. If you have a phone with a decent camera.

I use an old phone just for that purpose with a dedicated case. Works well, the generic mount wasn't as convenient.

Yes! I have one for my iPhone SE 2nd Gen and it works quite well on my Kowa 884 and Swaro 10x42 SLC's. Check out this thread for additional info:

I got one for my spotting scope. I never really use my spotting scope anymore...

I did the same old phone, dedicated case etc so I never had to fiddle with it and could just slap it on. It works great on the rare occasion that I do drag it out. Its just boring watching steel like that. If I were following someone around on a hunt it or had time to set it up for myself before the shot it would be awesome.

I have purchased two of the phone mounted scope devices and while one of them is not bad neigher of the two work all that good or even 1/8th as good as the scope mounted cam tho I have the sure shot and even a year later have never really gotten anything usable from it . the phone mounted cam I had to make a mount for to attach to a bi pod to keep it still enough to even have a chance to see anything , and even in a little wind it bounces all over the place maybe others have had better luck If I could Id save the money and get more ammo even the spotting scope my father uses it for the 22 I have not found a reason to use it over the rifle's scope as I can see everything it can now without having to move off the rifle . try it you might get one to work for you .good luck either way .

I captured this with Phone Skope through my Kowa 884 using the Pro Camera by Moment app on iPhone SE 2nd gen, 1080p @60fps.

The target range is ~650 yds and the scope is set at ~25-30x. The rifle is 300 Norma shooting 230SMK @2995fps.

I have another video of an 800yd target I can share, but I need to edit out a portion of the sound first for privacy reasons.
