looks like he was hit in the left neck. Pretty nice incision there. Hopefully his carotid took a hit, and he stroked out.

No. You dont put gauze in the ears for face or neck surgery. If it were real you wouldnt see the towels, they go under the surgical drape. The dressings go on the wounds before being extubated, etc...

Carotid is located more anterior on the neck, between jawline and sternal notch. And hitting the carotid would cause you to bleed out, not stroke out. Strokes are caused by rupturing or occluding the vessels in the brain.
