Finally picked up my rifle today from Parish Davis in Mobile, AL.

It's a REM700 .308 (single shot for F T/R only) with a McMillan A4 stock (70% light tan, 30% medium tan), 30" Krieger 5R barrel in 1:10", NightForce Benchrest 12-42x56 NP-R2 illuminated reticle.

Know exactly where you're at. That'd be cool but I don't know if I'd be the best person to get pointers from. I can shoot pretty good with just about anything, but that's all, just pretty good. And I'm not the best at being able to explain what I'm doing, I just do it. I'm still learning when it comes to precision long distance. Right now, I'm just a newbie with an expensive rifle. But, I'd be glad to help you out in any way that I can. Just let me know.

The only place I have around here is at Ft. Benning to shoot past 100. Other than that, it's Uchee Range in Tuskegee, just across the interstate from here. I have a buddy who might be interested in shooting there as well. He's a member here, remau308, and is one of my fellow officers in the Auburn Shooting Club. Send me a pm sometime and we'll set something up.

I've not been to Hard Rock yet, but remau308 is supposed to take me to the next one that he goes to. I'd be interested in shooting a Steel City match, and my buddy would too. We're always looking for somewhere to shoot. If you can help us out with that, let me know. And I'm very familiar with Selma. I have lots of family from that direction. Used to have family reunions at Block Park in some big room. Also, my dad new Terry Leach. Did you ever have a chance to meet him? I got to meet him when he was home for a couple of days about a week before he made the Braves look silly in the World Series. I was just a little fella back then.

Re: Picked up my custom built F T/R rifle today...

i'm looking forward to shooting at both those (i think is steel city brocks gap?) places this year also not sure if i can bring more than 2 to my range (son is going )but i should be going next saturday in the morning .i get there aroung 8-8:30 and finish up about noon 1pm i practice like its a match with mr-63 targets. this coming weekend i will need to re site in for 300 since i swapped mounts and rings around to get ready for hard rock this year(i was 10 moa short so i put a 20moa base on my 308).

Re: Picked up my custom built F T/R rifle today...

Get with me later this week and I'll have a better idea about what I have going on this coming weekend. Ill also have to come up with some ammo before then. I've only got 30 rounds at the moment and I'm going to spend them this week shooting remau. Do you reload?

Re: Picked up my custom built F T/R rifle today...

Re: Picked up my custom built F T/R rifle today...

I just started shooting at Steel City/ Brocks Gap last fall.
I don't know if Larry is going to run an F class match, but you can shoot your F class rifle in his Precision Rifle match.
I just got my F class rifle the week before the last match and shot it off the bench.
You can shoot off the bench in one relay and prone in a second relay. Use the same rifle or different gun for each, what ever combination you want.

Contact him (InAlabama, I think) when he post something up in a few weeks.

Y'all need to come up and join in. I also plan to get to hardrock this year.

Re: Picked up my custom built F T/R rifle today...

i asked and he said this in a email i got back from him

Hey guys i will be running my precision rifle match the 2nd sat of each month, i wont be doing the f class next year. Check out the precision match, 5 distances to 510 lots of steel, here is the link on our website, the next match is 11/12/11, last one til 2/12. Larry

Re: Picked up my custom built F T/R rifle today...

The Precision Rifle Match is 5 shots at 5 distances, 25 rds total, cold bore.
5 at 100 at paper, 5 at 300 at paper, 5 at 385 at 4" steel, 5 at 450 at steel plate and 5 at 510 at steel plate.
They said he will change it up from time to time.

I've only shot there 3 times, but did have a good time.
Come on up.

Re: Picked up my custom built F T/R rifle today...

Also Steel City has a 500yd benchrest match on the 4th saturday of the month. There's a modified class that most any tactical bolt gun will fit in. They shoot for group & for score. I've been shooting these this past year. I enjoy it ... A great bunch of guys. Dont let "benchrest" discourage you. Give it a try also.

Im not sure why Larry started changing things up in his precision matches, but thats one reason he lost some shooters. I've heard several complain & they quit shooting them.

I went with Kreiger's #15 Standard Palma contour. Here's a link to their contour dimensions page....

I should get my new rig next month. I was really worried about the weight of my new rifle. I plan on a 27" barrel right now, but 28"+ would have been nice. What is the final weight on your rifle? My old ftr rifle was 15.5 lbs with a 24" rem varmint contour barrel, nxs 8-32, bell and Carlson a-5 style stock

You will be able to make it to 1000 with a 20". He'll just get there faster.
