Pillars for Boyds Stock

after searching all the local places, I decided to try my Local Home Dept.... Just about to bail and go over to Menards... and I find these...

Perfect size. inner diameter fits the action screws perfectly... I bought 3 as they were cheap.

Perfect size. inner diameter fits the action screws perfectly... I bought 3 as they were cheap. Only needed to cut down one for both action screws.... Was able to use my cordless drill to open up the wood ... used a Dremel to cut the pillars to size and finish with some hand filing. Used a cutting disc to cut grooves around them for the bedding epoxy. Should turn out perfect.

Here is the after set up, but before sanding.

Did you just free hand the holes in the stock bringing them uo to size?
Groves on the o.d. of the pillars for adhesive.

Nice looking job.

Been stressing doing the same for a magpull 10/22. One action mount threaded, worried the polimer is soft.
Did a lot of drilling in the past, had presses, jigs and guides and made some.
Done freehand as well.

Big differance was it was government shit I didn't pay for. Lol

The good thing, if you make a mistake, you can fill it in with Epoxy and once sanded and painted, looks fine.

The wood chipped a bit on the edge of one of the holes... the Epoxy filled it in no problem. I would expect drilling out polymer would be more forgiving...

A bit late to the party, but lamp rod works well too if it will fit your screw. Used it on my Boyds with a Savage MKII and it came out great. Has external threads to provide grip. You do have to cut to length.
