I'm doing a pink AR for the wife and want to Cerakote Prison Pink some small accents. Mostly the mags, sights, takedown pins, safety, forward assist, and ejection port cover. Is it smarter to spray a quick coat of white, gray, or silver first? I wasn't sure how well the pink covered the black and since Cerakote goes on so thin, I didn't want to use 2 or 3 coats. I would rather not spend the 35 bucks on a color I might not use again, but if it's necessary, it will be done.

With Pink you will get a better pop of color with a base like white. If you dont paint a lighter color base color first you will end up with same thickness by having to lay down a heavier coat anyway. Best to go with a white first. As much as I hate to admit I have both prison pink and bright pink colors that I have used for customers in the past.

Just recently did a customer's Sig 220 slide and frame in pink, found that doing a light fogging coat then flash baking it for 15 min
helped get the second coat to be more uniform without having to lay it on crazy thick.

Yeah, I figured it would be easier with a lighter coat first. I plan on doing another AR in a titanium finish, so maybe I'll get away with a quick coat of that before the pink. I can't think of a good use for white at the moment, and with the shelf life, I don't see a need in the future.
