I've got a 14.5 inch upper and am in the market for a comp/muzzle brake/flash hider to pin on to make this thing legal. So far I've been looking at

-Battle comp 1.5
-Surefire 556
-AAC Brake out
-AAC black out 51t

I'm sure many of you out there have run these on a carbine, any words of wisdom or just preferences and performance reports? Thanks!

with a KAC birdcage. . . if only it could stay like this. . .

Re: pinned flash hider for a 14.5 barrel?

i already have a 16 upper and just thought i'd get a 14.5 for kicks. this rifle is mainly going to be used for paper punching and doing classes with.

i'll post pics up of what it looks like right now

No experience with the others listed but I do have a 14.5" with pinned AAC Brakeout. I like it and when I do the paper work for a suppressor....VOILA! It will slip right on.

thats one reason why i want an AAC but honestly, i live in commyfornia so suppressors are pretty much out of the question until i change my residency.

^^this. Why have a shorter barrel with less velocity and performance? If you really want a 14 inch Ar, then do it right and just SBR it. Pinned muzzle's may as well have Hello Kitty painted on the side.

Re: pinned flash hider for a 14.5 barrel?

I believe your not asking you should do the pinned on break so I will just comment on what I know. I loved my DNTC break from PWS but the AAC breaks do a pretty darn good job, how ever if you do not plan on running suppressors save the weight and the external teeth and get something else.

Re: pinned flash hider for a 14.5 barrel?

I've been shooting my 14.5" upper with a pinned PWS FSC556 for a couple years now and still love it. It is quite loud if you are standing next to it though. But behind the rifle, you dont notice it near as much. Performance wise, the muzzle climb is almost eliminated with this comp. I've heard good things about the BattleComp though.

Re: pinned flash hider for a 14.5 barrel?

Both my 556 14.5" pinned and 6.8 SPC 8" PSD had A-2 replaced by AAC to accommodate the suppressor. Loud and typical but nice for the QD suppressor use.
My 556 12.5" has the Battlecomp 1.5 and it performs flawlessly. Still loud, but almost eliminates muzzle rise and follow-up shots are quick and scary accurate. It's worth the small price.
