Gentlemen, I am looking at having a new rifle built and have researched the GA Precision Templar Action, and the Surgeon 591, and 1581 action. It will be a 308. I am looking to have the build done by the manufacturer of the action, and would like some advice which would you chose, and are there any other actions out there I am overlooking? I have three other 308's a Kimber Tactical, FN SPR, and a TBA M40 A5 on the way any day now. So I am curious am I missing any good actions?? Or for that matter any good builders out there. I would appreciate any advice, I would rather wait, and spend more money for quality.

call Preston at surgeon he will make a great stick or you could go with APA or GAP many others out there

Lawton, Stiller, Difiance, etc.... All are great custom action manufacturer. It is more about what you are wanting out of the rifle then anything else. I like stiller just because you get a nice price break for fact-to-face transaction and live close enough to do that.

You might want to consider Pierce Engineering, They cost of their barreled actions are real reasonable, and the wait time is 6-10 weeks. Hasgunwilltravel gun is a 6.5x47L and shoots like a laser, Mine chambered in the 6.5 creedmoor will be done in a couple of weeks.

Don't overlook Badger. Skunkworks makes a hell for stout action as well.

Badger is good, Skunkworks has his actions made by Defiance Machine.... Mike(skunkworks) is a great guy and builds a hell of a rifle

Thanks gentlemen, alot of new places to check out and research. That's why I love this site so many people from so varied a back ground, and so much info to access. The more I learn the reality sets in just how little I really knew to begin with

I've been doin alot of thinking towards a budget custom. And came the the decision of having gap build the barreled action on thier Templar action. It would cost me more to buy a used action and have it trued

They are all great. They will all build a accurate rifle. Some smiths have faster turn around times. If that is important.

William Roscoe of LA Precision is having actions made to his spec by one of the best people around, same guy makes the Templar actions for GA Precision. I Have not had William build a rifle for me YET; but all reports are his work is great. Add to that a top flight receiver manufacture building to William's specs and I don't see how you can go wrong.

Surgeon action, and have APA (American Precision Arms) do the build! Jered builds a mean rifle! And you wont have to wait forever to get it! Jered built mine in record time.
