Is anyone running FFS on a platform that's not a Nomad? I realize they're great PDAs, but they are so...2003. I'd rather run it on a smaller, more compact (and modern) Juno or something similar, yet everyone I know who runs it does so on a Nomad 800 or 900. Yeah, I know that's a clue, but I'm curious what the Hide hivemind thinks?

You mean like this? Field Firing Solutions

Blaine offers it on a Juno T41 if that's your preference. Personally, I have a Nomad 900 and like having the keypad. Reason being that you have to hit the enter key to update the weather inputs. It's much easier to have a physical button to push rather than having to use an electronic keyboard. If you watch his training videos, you'll see that there are other benefits to the physical keyboard.

Granted, the Nomad is dated, but it works and it works well. There are so many of them out there that there isn't any danger of them not being supported.

I'm running FFS off of a Juno 3B that I got off of eBay IIRC. I know the PDA is old school, but it works well for FFS and the 3B is small and robust. Haven't set up bluetooth or GPS and don't have a PLRF10 so RF connectivity is not a requirement for me.

I've run it on a Pharos 565 for years without issues. I have a Nomad 900 also and the only difference is that the 565 double spaces the menu choices and sometimes you have to scroll down to get to the lower options but it's not really a problem. Actually for day to day use I like the 565 better, it's smaller, lighter and the screen is brighter in the sun and the GPS works faster than the Nomad. The nomad is more rugged but I have dropped the 565 on concrete many times without failure. I thing Blaine doesn't recommend the 565 only because he hasn't tested the program on it.
