Suppressors POF .308 + Suppressor question...

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

I never ran my can on my colts, armalites, wilson combats so I didn't need to do the "gasket seal" with the charging handle, and NO on my POF I don't get the black face like I have heard about on other weapons.

It is NOT as quiet as I like and running just surplus standard 55gr LC ball it is NOT as quiet as I like. I have had it where it has the large holes forward and lets out a lot of gas it is a little quieter but gets picky about cycling after lots of rounds, but with the small holes forward it seems to be a tad bit louder but has zero issues cycling.

Still more questions?

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

Yeah, my can made everything so fuggin nasty in my SASS, that I just don't even run the can on it anymore...

Looking for an alternative. Wish there was an aftermarket kit like the Adams Arms for the AR-15's.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

I bought one several months ago off of GB. Come to find out that Bushy is using the POF stuff but it is all black in color. I got it cheap. So you might try to get your hands on a bushy piston kit. It was the gas block, piston, complete bolt w/carrier.

Not sure if it was a new take off or just something extra someone had.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

My observation is that a piston gun is a bit cleaner with a can but it's still nasty. The carbon build up happens else where, like where the piston vents, depending on what model piston kit/gun you have. Also round count is a big factor. Recently ran a can with an Adams Arms kit in a carbine class for a couple of days. It got pretty nasty.

If I'm not mistaking I think AA is working on a 308 piston kit. I know they were working on a 6.8 kit too.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

I'm trying to decide if I should sell my DPMS SASS, and replace it with a POF. It's one of my CQB / fun guns, and I'd like to run the can on it.

I don't know what I want to do... Hmmmmmm.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

I hear ya, brother. I have a POF in .308 still new in the box...just sitting here. It's a 20" upper and I'm torn. I dont need the long barrel and would rather have it short...shorter the better. The stamps will take forever but what the hell hopefully it will be worth it. I'm gonna call POF and see what the due date on a 16" upper is. Maybe I will sell this 20".

Decisions, Decisions.

I want to run a can on it as well otherwise I would just run a regualr gasser setup.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

If it's still gonna run dirty, than I might just keep the SASS. The dang rifle just shoots for a stocker...

Don't know if it's worth the trouble or not. My thought process was that if the piston system elliminated all that blow back, than it would be worth it, if it's still gonna run dirty, I might just keep the SASS and go can-less.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

I sold my POF 308 a couple of months ago. Had the short pinned barrel. I only put about 200 rounds through it. I wasn't impressed at all. I have the Armalite SASS and that mofo shoots. Of course it was my wedding gift from my wife so I'll never sell it but I can't imagine wanting to get rid of it.

I replaced the POF 308 with a LWRC PSD 6.8 and a custom lefty 12.5" 6.8 built by Spike's tactical.

The piston will be cleaner but it will still get dirty. If you were to lock the bolt back on a piston gun after firing a round, the magazine and the round at the top of it are immediately dirty. I've heard that every one round of suppressor shooting is equal to 10 rounds of non suppressed as far as fouling is concerned.

I hesitate to use the can now just cause of the cleaning it takes. But now I want a can for my incoming bolt gun. So I don't know how that will be affected. I know nothing about bolt guns and suppressors.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

I've been running an AAC Cyclone-k on Dag1055's 308 POF, it seems to be stay quite clean for running suppressed, compared to a DI gas system.

That's good to know. I think I'm going to get an AAC can.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

I've been running my AR's suppressed (80% of the time) for about 6-7 years now, 3 of which has been on piston uppers. Suppressed piston uppers still get dirty but it is only half (if that) of the DI gun and on top of that the residue is isolated to the mag well, bolt (front half'ish) and a bit around the chamber opening inside the receiver. This is with with cleaning every few hundred rounds if you must.

I once wanted to see how many suppressed rounds I would go before a failure and ended up cleaning at about 1,500 rounds due to a 4 day class that coming weekend. Didn't need to and I actually wish I hadn't but it is what it is.

The cleaning of the weapon is also WAY less labor intensive over the DI as the piston guns generally don't burn the residue on so you usually wipe most off with a (solvent) dampened rag then very little effort to get the remaining.

I had the POF, Bushy, and LWRC and sold all except the LWRC. Look at all the systems and each companies CS and I'd be suprized if you went any route but LWRC.

No, I don't work for or with them in any way other than being a satisfied customer on multiple occasions.

Hope that helps a bit.

Re: POF .308 + Suppressor question...

I have run cans on my LWRC and POF in .223.
I do use a gas buster charging handle regardless.
They run much cleaner compared to my Colt or Bushy with blow back.
I do have an LWRC .308 on order. On that weapon I will run my SAS Arbiter .30 cal can.
I would expect the same results.....when it comes in I'll let you know.
