Did the upgrade to my the my RRA entry tact and have fired about 200 rounds all together. At 150 rounds I cleaned the the weapon and didnt see any signs of wear and tear nothing new and shiney. Went to range last week fired about 50 rounds and when I cleaned the upper noticed about a 1.5" channel dug out. Not exactly sure what is causing this to happen. The only thing I can think of is the upgraded roller cam. Wanted to get your alls feed back on this to see if that would be correct or not. Also, there is no new wear marks on the BCG. TIA for the replies. Please let me know if you cant see the pics this is the first time trying.

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

Yes the channel is in the upper. If you were looking at it up side down it would start just above the gas tube and to the righy (if that makes sense). Also will try to repost the pics so that way its easier

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

yes the channel is the silver area. According to POF their roll cam is the same specs as the orginal cam pin. As far as I can tell when charging the weapon it feels the same as the stock part; doesnt feel loose or like there is any play in the BCG. Here is the link for the upgrade kit by POD. Mine is the one for DI AR15. http://www.pof-usa.com/parts/arparts.htm

Also thanks for posting the pic still dont understand how you did it though. I was just going to send the link to my face book page.

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

You may want to ask POF directly, but their roller cam was designed for piston guns. I'd be curious to hear if locking time has changed resulting in the problems you're experiencing. (Come to think of it, I'm trying to think how you would be able to tell the difference.)

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

True the roller cam was orginally designed for piston guns. The modified that version to be able to work with DI AR's. Also is there anyone else out there that has done the mod on their DI AR

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

i am wanting to add one of these to a 308 MA-10 so keep us posted

op, try backing the camera away some. you are too close to get in focus. its better sharp and small than big and fuzzy. i cant really tell whats going on in the pictures.

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

Can you post a picture of your roller cam by itself and installed in your BCG? I'm wondering if you didn't get the 308 version instead of the 223 version. When you post a picture, put
after. The full word "image" has to be typed, even though it's being shortened to "img" for some reason. Then your pictures will appear like this.

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

ahh, im seeing the silver now for some reason i didnt get it before. i was not expecting such a wide line. i cant quite visualize whats scraping that off. what is close to that area of the inside ? is it the cam pin? could it be the top of the cam pin cause its about that wide or could it be from the BCG being forced over by a bigger cam pin? just thinking since i can get my hands on it to see

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

Whats the purpose of this ''roller cam''? Is it a tier 1 tactical, match grade, spec ops designed product that claims to reduce your group size by 95%? The factory cam key cams against the cam slot in the carrier, not in the receiver. The purpose of the relief cut in the upper receiver is to provide clearence for the cam key to allow the bolt to rotate. Its not a camming surface.

I agree! The original cam pin, as far as design goes, works great and has for years!!! Always use the K.I.S.S. method of doing things.

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

I looked at this new roller cam and it took about 2 seconds to find many reasons NOT to get one .The main reason is that the fireing pin runs through the cam pin and the roller by design would allow it to rotate and bind the pin. Can you say "slam fire" Everybody that has run the AR system for any lenght of time has a drawer in their shop full of "fixes "for things unbroken. If they only spent their money on ammo and their time at the range the world would be a better place,

Agree here too. I think that roller cam is goofy at best. Don't get me wrong. POF makes some good stuff but some of their stuff is just to far out there for me.

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

This was to replace the stock gas key and cam pin because the gas key was showing some wear around the hole that slide into the gas tube. Also POF claim that the action would run smoother I thought was a plus. I will post pics later with the BCG with this "upgrade" on it also going to the range so I guess I will see for sure when I come back if this is the issue when I compare before and after damage. Either way It would be good to know for me and everything thinking about this "upgrade" if it worth the 45 bucks or not. Off to the range.

I would recommend it at least for the .308 version. </div></div> Its showing zero wear on the upper because it is not contacting anything, the roller does nothing but lighten your wallet.

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

I looked at the cam pins for both my AR-10 and Bushmaster XM-15. It isn't possible to put the AR-10 cam pin into the AR-15 by mistake. The AR-10 cam pin diameter is much larger. When looking in the upper receiver of the XM-15, there is a tiny ding at the back of the cut out where the cam pin rotates as the bolt unlocks, but after that, there is only a very minor wear mark in the anodizing of the channel where the cam pin slides. No gouging present from the stock cam pin. The stock cam pin measures .400" across. Can you measure the diameter of the POF roller?

Re: POF roller cam upgrade

Today got curious and went back to the stock cam pin. When cycling the action using the charging handle I did notice a lil bit of play to the left and right with the roller cam. Did the same thing with the stock pin and problem solved. I did maintain the pof gas key cause stock one had a couple chips. Not sure exactly what was going on cause the roll cam is the same specs as the stock one. I will be contacting POF about the issue so they are aware of it.
