Is a match made in Heaven.... Just got back from the range testing both the 168gr. TAP AMAX and the 168gr. TAP Precision and I couldn't be happier. I was under a tight time restriction so I only fired (1) 3-shot group and (1) 5 shot group but these groups are a good representation of the success I've been having in the last couple weeks in testing out this ammo/rifle combo (1/2-3/4" groups). Needless to say I'm in love with this combination POF/TAP. I will be chronoing these two loads and will report back and in addition I will be shooting some groups out to 800 yards (16.5" rifle) and will keep adding to this thread. Groups were shot from the prone position utilizing a rear bag. Check it out....

Re: POF-USA (.308)/HORNADY TAP...

My POF loves that TAP 168 amax as well. I did notice some more recent boxes of hornady TAP that did not have the 'Match' headstamp on the casings that did not shoot quite as well. Opened up to about 1 1/4" groups from 1/2-3/4". Asked hornady about this and they stated all TAP should have the match casings. Anyway, congrats on your groups - nice shooting!!

Nice groups SS. I would have posted them too haha. Have to keep an eye on this one.

Re: POF-USA (.308)/HORNADY TAP...

Finally had perfect conditions at the range today. I think I'm starting to get use to this system as the groups are starting to tighten up. I know I have already fallen in love with it. POF-USA/Hornady TAP ROCKS!!!!!!

Re: POF-USA (.308)/HORNADY TAP...

Roger that guys. I will be stretching her legs as soon as I get some more TAP (on order). I hate running out of ammo. I guess I'm going to have to load some up until my order comes in.

Re: POF-USA (.308)/HORNADY TAP...

Someone at Hornady let it slip that the TAP 168 Amax is basically 44g Varget (plus some 'anti-flash' stuff). I have found the TAP and 44g varget behind 168 Amax shoot same POI and groups.

Re: POF-USA (.308)/HORNADY TAP...

Bear in mind, though, that most load manuals list that 44g varget and 168g bullet as OVER max. I have been told they are consevative, but I did start lower and slowly work up to the 44g load.

Re: POF-USA (.308)/HORNADY TAP...

very good shooting!

I love my POF .308 and get great results with it down range. I have only been able to pull off shooting 1/4 moa with it once or twice LOL. Mainly due to me and my shooting skills. I love how great these rifles are and am happy to see others getting great results with their set ups.

I am glad to see the great results with hornaday ammo. I shoot that stuff once in a while when I really want to see how well I can shoot.

I've never shot steel, rang the gong dead nuts on the first shot with my 7STW then Paul busted it with the 300 WBY mag. My 140gr ballistic tip rang it OK, his 200gr lead tip sounded more like hitting it with a 2x4. Can't wait to shoot with our AR15's and then my POF 308 when I finally pay it off. We both got one target, going to put the other one out a little further, just have to find the right spot.

Be sure to let us know when you do shoot some long range stuff, get some steel if you don't already have it, man its fun.

Gonna post a few pics of the target hanger we copied, pretty cool setup.

One of the best things is that you can buy just one or two steel plates, have several t-post hangers set up at different yardages and with the quick link through the eye bolt just move your chain/steel to different yardages. Saves a little money that way, if you can afford it though just buy lots o steel.

I bet that target dances a bunch when it gets hit. Does it ever flip itself over the top 2x4's and get stuck?

Re: POF-USA (.308)/HORNADY TAP...

Good point and not much other than I was recommending he shoot some steel if he doesn't already. Just posted a handy way to hang the steel, cause for f*ck sake, shooting steel is fun. It did junk up the thread though so erased my other posts. Probably should have checked, I would have seen he's been on here since 2006 so he probably has shot plenty of it. Whoops

Re: POF-USA (.308)/HORNADY TAP...

I sent (5) shots from 600 yards last Thursday. I'm proud to say that the group measured 4 1/2". I love this POF/TAP combo. BTW I cranked in 4.8 Mils elevation and my avg. velocity is 2503 fps out of a 16.5" barrel.
