POI change with muzzle brake?

A friend of mine gave me a YHM muzzle brake, that is the QD mount for their cans. I tried it out today, and my groups were approx. 3" higher than without it. I was concerned that I may be getting bullet contact, but I was grouping consistently, and no worse than without the brake. My question is, is this much of a POI change normal or not?

At what range?

and bottom line that does not seem reasonable...(nut behind the bolt?)

Re: POI change with muzzle brake?

I was shooting at 50 yards, which was why I was so concerned. I wouldn't have thought it would have made that much of a difference at that short of a range. I shot several different groups, at different targets/angles, and all with the same results....2 1/2 - 3" high at 50 yards.

I had that happen to me as well. My POI was high at 200yds. I can't remember exactly what range things started to even back out, (I want to say somewhere between 400 to 600yds) but my muzzle brake definitely changed my POI.

You will have too correct your DOPE....Hehehehe, as if you needed a reason to go shoot some more.

My poi has shifted on every rifle that I put a brake on. As long as it’s still grouping tight and there is no sign of the bullet contacting the brake, I would say you’re good to go.
