Question for the builders here. I’ve been building since 2017 and have been pleased with how my rifles shoot, but it has taken up to 100 rounds for a few to settle in. I use fresh, sharp reamers from Mansen or JGS. Chambers look perfect on the Hawkeye. I thinks it’s just the burnishing of the lead angle taking a bit as best I can guess.

Is it possible to shorten that process? I know one guy who scrubs his throats with JBs bore paste.

Thanks,
Brian

what do you mean settle in?
Velocity or accuracy?

Well both really. Mostly accuracy. I don’t mind them speeding up as they break in, but it’s nice to hand a guy a rifle that doesn’t require 80-100 rounds before it’ll shoot bug holes.

I've lost track of the number of sub 1/4 moa groups I've seen shot within the first 15rnds on a new tube.
Are you using a known good load from previous barrels?

Who’s barrels are you using? I can probably count on one hand the number of barrels that didn’t shoot less then .5 after just a few rounds to get the scope dialed in.

Before you go to putting any kind of abrasive paste down those barrels I would talk to the barrel maker, most will void any kind of warranty if you try and fire lap or use any type of abrasive lapping, and it might just make things worse.
