I didn’t grow up in the south, but biscuits are used same as rolls/bread in NE are. Bulk up the meal and provide necessary carbs needed for the real amount of work done by the average blue collar worker every day from sun up to sundown. That includes farmers of all sorts in my opinion.

I happen to like my biscuits dry for soaking up things like butter and honey. Maybe egg yolk.

If you use a touch of buttermilk they dont get so dry but still sop well.

In the south, biscuits had a side benefit, the women made skirts and other things out of the flour sacks. I still have my grandmother's last quilt that has some feed sack patches.

It's a Popeye's, of course it is.

I walked into a Popeyes in the middle of the hood once with a bunch of people in it. It was like a western movie saloon scene everyone in the place stopped what they were doing and stared at me. Then I ordered and this dude nodded at me so I guess I got some cred that day.
