Portable/compact reloading bench for Dillon 650??

Ok folks.
I have recently started shooting USPSA and steel pistol shoots and am hoping to give 3 gun a whirl as well. And my son has decided he wants to start shooting in the steel matches with me as well and I am sure he will want to shoot USPSA as he progresses.
So my ammo usage has reached a point where I am forking out some dough on ammo and need to start loading pistol ammo in quantity ASAP.

So....I decided I "need" a progressive loader and am looking at the Dillon 650 or the Hornady Ammo Plant. Mostly the 650 at this point.

My problem. I live in a condo with a one car garage so space is very limited.
I am looking for recommendations and input on anyone using a portable/small reloading bench for a 650 size press. I am thinking something like a rolling toolbox, etc.

Any help/ideas would be great.

Take care,Stan

I think you're on the right track with the dillon, I have a 550.

You put some serious leverage on the press on both the down and up stroke. I'd want something I could secure to the wall. If you have access to the corner of the garage, maybe you could install some sort of cleat or bracket to the walls. This bracket could be constructed so it accepts a removeable tabletop that hosts your permanently installed press. It would probly also need a removeable leg on the corner, with some way to hang a shelf in case you need to put weight on it to hold it down.

Re: Portable/compact reloading bench for Dillon 650??

I had my 650 mounted on a rollaway toolbox when I lived in an apartment after my divorce. I bought a Craftsman rollaway and cut a piece of solid core door to fit the top. I bolted the the wood top to it using fender washers underneath with carriage bolts. I had enough weight in the box that it wasn't an issue when using the press. I mounted the press so it was on the side allowing easier access to the drawers and allowing the slide out tray to be extended for additional workspace when loading.

I don't think you can go wrong with the 650 for loading pistol rounds for USPSA use.

Good luck Stan!

I have a Dillon 550. It is mounted on a small table that is through bolted to an older model Workmate. Very stable, no tilting, a place to rest your feet and isolated from the powder scale.

any pics of this setup? i am in the same boat as needing a small reloading setup. I want to avoid the garage for heat/humidity reasons and I don't have a room in the house to reload in, so i'd like to have something i can roll into the closet when not needed.

I bought one of these and it is currently in the dining room of my apartment. Plan is to stuff it in a "closet" and reload in there. I also plan on the 650 being mounted on it, or putting a countertop ontop of the bench for added beefiness.
