Well I figured there may be a few Texans on here so I'd try and get some opinions from you guys. I have an interview in Dallas this coming Tuesday for a job in San Antonio that I would be taking in the next few months. I've never even been to Texas let alone San Antonio, so I was wanting to get some feedback on this.

I've lived in Kansas City my whole life.
Single
22 year old male

Think this is somewhere I would like? I'll be working a lot to start so I won't have a ton of free time, but I hope it's somewhere I would at least enjoy living at. I've heard Texas is awesome, but i'm not sure about all the hype. I do love hot weather though!

Plenty of hot weather for you.

I'm not a big city guy, driving through SA is a pain in the ass, bring an up to date GPS (really no worse than any other major city).
There is plenty to do.
The river walk is really nice, they have the Spurs and you don't have to go far to be in the outdoors.

Re: Possibly Moving to San Antonio

Don't think Dallas is just like San An first off, its not.

I grew up about 1-2 hours east of Dallas and went their often, too often. Now, however, I live about an hour-ish from both Austin and San Antonio in the heart of the Texas hill country and love it.

Does it get hot in the summer? Hell yes, it seems like global warming is... more efficient here.. I've actually experienced a form of heat stroke twice in the past 2 years and my brother once. Im 27 and him 32 respectively. (Take note that lotsa beer + working on a farm in 100+ heat mid-day and high humidity is pretty stupid, for us at least, our dad had convinced us it was of the norm when he was our age..)

As for what to expect, generally people are nice but I tell you I've drivin all around, including through Kansas (nice but a bit flat for my taste), and I've experienced the worst drivers/traffic/inconsiderate pos's in San Antonio consistently. I've been told it was just my bad luck but who knows. Maybe you can give me your own personal non-biased opinion after you spent some time there

Texas is a great place. I have lived here all my life and whatever you like is here, mountains, desert, hill country and where I live on the coast. Don't let anyone scare you because of hurricanes, they tell you when and where they are coming, not like tornados and other storms in America. I like living one hour from Houston and it is there if I want it and if I don't I stay away until I need something.

As a native Virginian, I love Texas. Twas a bit of a culture shock at first but I managed to spend roughly 15 years there somehow. The traffic around San Antone IS bad, and gets worse the closer you get to Austin. Not so much the volumne, but the apparent lack of driving skills and willingness to take extreme foolish chances.

Great titty bars.

The Hill Country is beautiful, but DRY. If you go east towards Corpus its a bit greener and more water.Youll love it, just be prepared for HOT, and more mMexicansthat you ever magined. Speaking spanish is a definite +. Brings up one of my favorite jokes:

What did Col. Travis say to Davey Crckett when he saw all Santa Ana's troops comeing towards the Alamo?

-Didnt know we were pouring concrete today, Davey.
