Hey guys, here's the situation. GF's family slid me some cash for the holidays and it was enough to get my rifle stock fund up to where it needed to be to grab an AICS for my R700. Couldn't be happier with that stock, its beautiful, adjustable, and really well made.

Fast forward another week and a half we go visit my family on the east coast (I live in Colorado) and what does my father have under his tree for me but a brand new Hooper Ordnance DBM conversion. Had I got that before buying the stock I may have considered outfitting my HS stock with the new bottom metal. However after laying hands on that AICS I'm pretty in love with that thing.

So if I find somebody interested in the Hooper DBM I will have a little coin in the gear fund again...and here's the question, whats it best spent on? My R700 has a nice stock now. I recently took the plunge on a nice scope after posting and getting some advice about that here on the hide. I grabbed a NF F1 and its great. More than I wanted to spend but after holding it and mounting it up and looking it over its worth every penny. So you all haven't steered me wrong in the past, hence the current question.

I've got a healthy supply of practice ammo I'm going to chew into a bit while I'm still on vacation. Nice rifle case. Etc.

I was looking at those Atlas Bipods, everybody seems to think they're the cat's pajamas, that a good way to go?

Is the harris enough and more practice ammo a better approach? Trying to make the most of my funds so lay it on me.

Edited to add - Maybe a nice shooting mat or pack?

An Atlas V8 with the rail adapter (or the spigot adapter if you prefer) would be a great addition to any AI rifle/chassis. What you have read about the Atlas is true. Having used them since they came out (including one early version, a couple V7s and a V8), they are the best thing going on the market today in terms of bipod support.

Aside from that, more ammo and more time on the range is ALWAYS one of the better options out there!!

If not that, hang on to the Hooper Ord DBM and use it on another project rifle in the future.

Thanks for the info. I may go for the atlas or as you said, just put it aside for more ammo and range time later on. Thats going to be one of my next posts, which range to join.

I thought about hanging onto the Hooper DBM but I don't see myself buying another short action rifle. If anything my next rifle will be bigger caliber to let me reach out farther. LR shootin' is a kick in the pants!

Any mat recommendations? I looked at the midway mats they seem good for the money.

Also thought about a rifle attachment for my tripod. Ive read here some prefer they be clamped and some prefer they just use a cradle. Which is better?

    Re: Post Holiday Debacle

there is a post on the midway mats, apparently they are allergic to sunlight, dirt, oxygen and a host of other things in the real world...

go with TAB, or any of the other brands at triad tactifcal, or rifles only pro shop. Good stuff there!

If you go with a magnum I will trade out the short action DBM for my new Long action DBM.

Just send it back in with a note.

    Thanks

Thanks all. Will do Mr. Hooper. You make nice stuff my only wish is that i had another rifle to put your bottom metal on!
