IMO, given historical and recent events the posts referenced in the article certainly warrant LE follow-up. Even if the threats are found to not be "serious" they also warrant punishment.

But it makes me wonder, where is the line drawn...?

Like many things, I expect the goal posts to move toward authoritarianism and speech policing. But thats just the cynical part of me talking...

OK I posted the most stupid s**t imaginable, what do I win?

But seriously, people don't think when it comes to social media or posting of anything public

Freedom of speech, sure.

But, if there IS a law that exists that states "A person cannot legally yell 'Fire' in a theater if there is no fire" (you figure out the legalese to it) then the SAME law can apply here.

No?

"As schools and communities watch for any threats of gun violence, there’s a push for zero tolerance for offenders of all ages.
Broward juvenile court Judge Elijah H. Williams warned students last year that “it doesn’t make a difference whether you are joking or serious when you make the threat. All of it is a crime.”

A bunch of he said she said implied intent bull shit.

Worse thing about it here in New York you can make a threat not just say it. You get arrested then get released until your court date. The crap these politicians come up with. Cuomo and his great bail reform.

Completely agree. And as previously mentioned the threats warrant LE follow through.

The question I had was about the moving of goal posts...how far will they move?

The first step has already taken form in this respect. The banning and blacklisting of dissenting or unpopular opinion on social media platforms. Does that turn into a knock at the door as well? IMO, it certainly could...and likely will at some point.

I don't know, I loathe intrusion, but wasting resources following up on these morons is just that, a waste.
Not saying everything that should be done is being done by LE to combat school shootings, but don't make a mockery out of it. You call in a bomb threat somewhere, you get caught, you get hauled in, how is this different? Perception is everything.

Well before 9/11 a friend worked out of the BHM airport police precinct . She told me of a passenger who, jokingly, made a comment about a bomb while the jet was rolling down the taxiway. It was heard by a flight attendant who called the cabin. The plane was taken back to the terminal, LE boarded and removed said passenger from plane. Also, all his carryon and checked baggage. It caused a big delay for all others on the flight and this idiot didn't fly that day. There are just things no one should joke about.
I was standing in a local gun shop one morning when a well dressed man with a big smile on his face came strolling in and announced he was there to buy a rifle for a mass shooting. That didn't go well either.

Its been a bunch of years since this was a thing, however, it is really no different than saying "I'm blowing up" when your cell phone rings at the Airport. I know a guy that spent some time with the Airport police after that stunt- post 9/11...

That's my plan if I ever get stuck on a plane for hrs and they won't allow passengers off.

As far as schools goes the teachers have no control over the kids any longer and can't discipline them in any way and the kids learn early there are no rules, restraints on them so they can do as they wish and go home free and clear of any punishment for their actions.
They need to restore discipline to the classes and put the teachers in charge not be babysitters to the little bastards.
