Powder rings around Case Neck?

Hey guys, i've been shooting 1-2 times a week now since i bought my R700 back in december, so i've gone through a fair amount of ammo over the last couple months. Since then i've been collecting my brass in hopes of one day finally reloading. Well, i'm on my third batch of 200 rounds (i buy by the case from my dealer) and o far the first two were great, clean and consistent. Lately I noticed the last few times when putting my spent brass into the storage box that almost every casing (except for a few here and there) all have burnt powder marks around the neck of the casing like so:

sorry for the crappy quality pics but you should be able to get the idea...is this something i should worry about or is this a normal occurance? Maybe i just never noticed the powder marks from other batches? I've heard this is a case of low pressure, and rounds not properly fire-forming because of it? Just looking for some insight.

Thanks

Re: Powder rings around Case Neck?

There are a number of things that could cause it. But its no big deal. Your good, no worry. Was this only from the last batch? Same brand etc.?

Well just for grins, you might really clean the throat area of the chamber. You may have some carbon built up. Us a cleaner specifically formulated to get the carbon.

All of my rifles show some carbon rings like that. I had been told that the rings are where the case finally seals up from the pressure of the round. The closer to the case mouth, and more uniform the ring is the better it is...so I'm told.

As all my rifles show some carbon ring of various types, I figured it was a normal part of the case sealing against the pressure.

+1 for Unknown's reply.

Consider in a non-issue. All mine do it to some extent, some much more.

It is an obturation issue, and to expect the entire length of the case neck to completely seal with the internal rising pressure is apparently unrealistic.
