Powder storage update

This is what I thought too - the manufacturers just seal the lid so possible malice can be avoided. It is closed just as the user would close it.

But like most seals, I think some may unintentionally screw it too tight and cause small air gaps. But I doubt it is nothing serious.

So I read Bryan Litz’s most recent book and he has a chapter in humidity and powder. He did not publish any data on humidity measurements inside these types of HDPE containers. Instead, he assumed that there are large humidity variations within these containers. I have not found this to be the case. I have been measuring this for almost a year and had my jug in humidity ranging from 30-100% and at one point I put the jug outside for almost 2-3 months where it was consistently exposed to over 80% humidity (100% for at least a few weeks in a row). I messaged him on Nov 22 about this but no reply yet (if I get one at all). Not sure what is going on here but seems straightforward that no humidity is penetrating through the container. I am placing the container outside again in the high humidity 80+% environment of the PacificNW, USA during the Winter months.

Has anybody else done this type of test where you’ve measured atmospherics inside a closed jug?

I have little hygrometers glued on the inside of the lid in my most used open jugs, and there is very little variation while it is stored. I try to keep the humidity between 45-50% pretty much year round and t only changes noticeably if I leave the jug open in humid weather.

Sounds like we have similar findings with minute to no variation in the jug until it is open and exposed to the humidity. The big difference in our monitoring is I purposely kept the jug in high humid conditions and still saw minute (less than 1%; possibly attributed to measurement error) to no variation inside the closed jug.
