I'm definitely going to purchase and build a .22lr rig starting this week or next. I don't have the time or money to devote to a .308 rig with my current commitments to other shooting disciplines so I figure a .22lr rig will be fun and inexpensive enough it won't affect my other shooting.

I'm pretty set on getting the Savage Mk. II FV and then adding an aftermarket stock and optic. Is there anything else I should be looking at adding to this setup?

Any reason I shouldn't go for the Savage Mk. II? I don't want a 10/22.

Re: Precision .22lr Rig

A 20 moa rail, a anti-cant device & a bipod. I like the Harris but there are several to choose from. Try to get a bipod that swivels & put a pod lock on it. Caldwell makes a harris clone that is pretty good at close to half the price.
If you shoot in the dirt, check out those Pod Claws. Kinda pricy & after looking at them I just ordered the bipod complete with the claws. These things work great!
I did to my FV what you are about to do. It's every bit as accurate as my TR.
Happy shooting!

Re: Precision .22lr Rig

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking about putting the Boyd's TactiCool stock on the gun and then I am pretty sure I am going to dip it in either a Multicam or ATACS camo pattern.

Re: Precision .22lr Rig

I have an FV that I plan on putting in Tacticool. I love it. Shoots great right out of the box. I have an EGW rail on it and I also got the 10 round mag which works really well.

Re: Precision .22lr Rig

I did exactly what you are planning, and if I had it to do over I'd buy the Savage with the Tacticool out of the box. I think it's the MKII TR. If you piece it together, you'll need to buy a trigger guard and new bottom metal in addition to the stock itself. The total bill came to something north of $150 with all the parts and shipping.

I think the TR has a fluted barrel and a better looking bolt knob also, though I've never seen one in person.

Re: Precision .22lr Rig

Go with the MKII TR. There are two models. One basic and one (Mark II TRR-SR) with rails all over and a threaded barrel. If you're not putting a can on it take the basic model. Get the small bipod (6" - 9") IMHO...easier to shoot.

The way I understand it is the TR comes with a fluted barrel, the TRR comes with a fluted barrel and tactical weaver rails, and the TRR-SR comes with both of these plus a threaded cap on the end of the barrel (silencer ready). There are models out there with a regular bolt knob, but the newer ones do have a tactical bolt knob. That's as far as I know anyway.

It's adequate. By no means exceptional, but I can make it work.

Re: Precision .22lr Rig

My FV came with the accutrigger which is sweet and in my opinion does not need to be swapped. I have mine set to as light as it goes, and was actually surprised at just how light they do let it go for a factory trigger.

Re: Precision .22lr Rig

As other's have said, if you're looking at the FV and then picking up the stock, etc. You would be just as well off (and perhaps better) picking up a TR to begin with. No fooling with ordering various parts, and you get the fluted barrel and bolt knob as well.
