"Precision Reloading" on a progressive

I am mostly a pistol shooter/reloader but I am getting more interested in longer range shooting on my AR platforms. I currently only have a progressive press (Hornady Lock-n-load) and was curious if there are anyone else here that works up loads on a progressive press. If you do what is your workflow?
Thanks!

There’s probably a few other threads on this, I just knew I had this one Watched.

Thanks. Should have searched first :poop:

I made a similar transition. I honestly just bought a single stage to do rifle stuff.

The down side I see with a progressive from a rifle standpoint, just for me personally, is that there are things I want to measure or control between the stations in a progressive. I want to measure before and after sizing. I want to clear the lube off after sizing and if needed trim after sizing. I want to deprime before I start anything so I can measure for sizing. I want to anneal after I deprime and measure prior to sizing.

If I'm pumping out 223 in bulk, then maybe I set up my loadmaster... but probably not. I'm pretty quick with most of that now.

Thats just my opinion, there are many ways to do things. Reloading is like a religion, try some things and if you don't like it, abandon it for something else.

I used to load 223 and 260Rem on an XL650. I'd do one process at a time but it was still much faster and easier because of the auto case feed. I went through a tough time and had to get rid of it and now I'm loading on Redding single stage. I'm at a point where I'm finally able to shoot more and I'm seriously considering getting an XL750 now. I don't feel like I gave up any accuracy with the 650 and in fact the smallest 223 group I ever shot was loaded on that press.

Me too, that's why I do all case prep work on a rockchucker and use the Dillon 550c strictly for loading. I use all 4 stations & it has significantly sped the process up - compared to the rockchucker.

  1. Expand & prime
  2. Pour. From Autotrickler setup. The charge is ready by the time I'm done seating & advancing. Extended tube helps with compressed 223 loads.
  3. Seat
  4. Measure
What I like about the 550 is easily backing up & reseating if it's a tad long.
