Went out to BOTW in Liberty Hill TX yesterday where TX multigun puts on their precision match....
It was entertaining. Most shots were under 100yds with one stage with 230y and 480y shots on steel.
A handful of gamers and guys pushing around their gear in baby strollers and such....
The match was setup mostly as a IDPA fun match for pistol shots and stretched out with steel targets for rifle shots. There were three classes: Bolt gun, small caliber gas gun, and larger caliber gas gun. IMHO, anything more than a AR with heavier bullets is not necessary. Round counts are high enough that a shooter could burn up a lot of un-necessary time and lead rocking out a bolt gun or large caliber gas gun.
Each shooter had a holstered small arm for pistol shots. Slings were not allowed on long guns, instead the shooter must carry the longgun around in the weak hand while taking unsupported/one-handed pistol shots. Reholstering sidearm for transitioning to long gun or vice versa is strictly prohibited. Sidearms must be cleared and grounded before proceding.
Even though this may have not been the traditional long range tactical/sniper comp. It was a lot of fun and seems to be a great way to get some new shooters interested with an active shooter event. It would be nice to see more long-range savvy shooters show up as the directors of the match seem to be very interested in shaping this match to the desires of the shooters.
