I see some guys mount on top in back, or top front or side rail etc.

Is one location better than others or does one location of offer an advantage?

Thanks

Mounting at 12 o clock is usually the best position for a laser. It helps keep the laser beam more in line with the center of the bore and the trajectory of the bullet. Can't really advise on the fore and aft position as that is more of a personal preference. Farther out on the front of the rail can make your weapon front heavy and can also be a problem for battery changes if you have it mounted too close to the front sight (Why LDI can't just put the battery compartment on the rear of the unit is beyond me). When you mount it too far to the rear, you might have problems with the IR light reflecting off your gun and washing out your NODs. The visible laser would probably illuminate the rail/front half of your gun, might be a problem if you're trying to be sneaky.
Hope that helps.

Im a fan of mounting as far forward on the rail at 12 o clock as possible (leave room to get your battery out). Less issues with something impeding the path of the laser this way. Also, mounting at the 12 o clock position gives you very similar height over bore offset to a RDO, which you should already be familiar with.

Top, front, center.

I normally run mine top center front.

But on one rifle I run it on the right front rail to avoid interference with the D740.

One another rifle I run it on the left front to get access to the fire button.

The preferred place to mount the laser is top center front.

Right front

Left front: This is more a rail-Estate and access to the fire button issue

Top Mount acutally interfered with the D740.

Back enough so vented gases that might leak out the back of the silencer do no impact the lens and so it does not show up on the day optic. Thus this varies with BBL length and Rail Length. Of course if it is on a piston gun you need to be aware of vented piston gas.
