I am currently thinking about rebarreling my Savage from a .308 to a 7mm-08 or .260. To help cover the cost of a new barrel what would my existing barrel be worth?

Barrel Specs.

McGowen Barrel
Cal- .308 Win.
Throated long for 208gr Amaxes (3.035")
Twist- 1x10
Length- 24"
Contour- Custom Varmint 1.062" Muzzle- .940"
11 Degree Crown

According to my barrel log I only have 154rds through it.

I don't have the targets in front of me but so far 1/4 and 1/2 MOA groups are what I have been getting at 200yrds+ (don't shoot much at 100yrds). I will look through my targets and get some real numbers this evening.

I think $50-65 is low...

figure it like this... an ER Shaw is $150 new, McGowan and CBI are around $280 new...

$50-75 for a Savage factory take off HB.... or a used ER Shaw

$250-300 for a top end barrel, w/ 200ish rds of 308 down it

I'd personally call your's $100-125

as general rule ( there are items that hold value well, other items that don't hold ANY value, and a few that basically go up in value just because you have it in hand right now ) but GENERALLY speaking... it's worth 50-75% of what you paid new

Re: Prefit Savage .308 Barrel. What's it worth?

The barrel is a small shank. The muzzle is not threaded. As far as keeping it for a switch barrel, I don't see that happening. Once I get it setup and sighted in I don't see myself taking the barrel off.

Thanks for all the feedback.

That's probably what you said about the 308 barrel.

You should keep it.

At the very least, even if you don't put it back on the rifle, you can always hit people with it...

Post it up in the for sale section, acc. ect, and see what you can get worht a shot and it,s worth more than $50-$60 bucks thta,s for sure. Just my opinion.
