Hey all. As some of you know, a few weeks ago while reading the umpteenth thread on whether or not Leupold is still a quality brand, I decided to start an informal spreadsheet where members could log their own experiences with optics. The purpose of this was threefold:

1. To provide everyone with concrete (or at least more numerical) data on brands, models, round counts, and experiences/reliability. Purpose being to be able to look up a large sampling when needed instead of the usual "well I had 10 of this scope and I never had a problem!" debates that would constantly unfold without much resolution. Numbers speak, and I figured it was time to collect as many as possible here.

2. To provide members a way to link up with one another over optics questions. As an example, I'd noticed someone had both a later-model Mark 4 and an original M3A. So I easily was able to contact him and ask questions about the differences in the two, his experiences, etc.

3. To provide new scope buyers with a chance to quickly see who's used what and how the various brands stack up. Like 2 above, also to provide them a way to connect with those who've owned scopes they're potentially considering buying for questions, advice, etc.

So far we've had about 100 entries. I've assigned a value of 0 to red (catastrophic malfunctioning), 5 to yellow (functional issues, but still operational), and 10 to green (a-OK).
<span style="font-weight: bold">
Averages and sample size below:

Ajax: 10 (1)
Barska: 0 (1)
Burris: 6.25 (4)
Bushnell: 6.67 (3)
Falcon Menace: 5 (3)
IOR: 10 (2)
ITT: 10 (1)
Kahles: 10 (1)
Kowa: 10 (1)
Leatherwood: 10 (3)
Leupold: 6.3 (23)
Nightforce: 10 (8)
Nikon: 6.67 (3)
Premier Reticles: 3.33 (3)
Redfield: 10 (2)
Russian: 10 (3)
Schmidt Bender: 9 (5)
Steiner: 10 (1)
Swift: 5 (1)
US Optics: 7 (5)
USGI: 10 (1)
Vortex: 10 (2)
Weaver: 7.5 (2)
Zrak: 10 (1)
</span>
I would love for everyone who can to enter their data. The format is pretty straightforward, but if you need any help or haven't used spreadhseets before, just PM me your info and I'll be glad to enter it.

I just ask you enter things in alphabetical order as they are now, use the spellings of the brands as they currently are, enter your screenname on the far right to minimize anonymous entries, and to not fiddle with the formatting of the cells.

Thanks all and hopefully this will help the entire community down the line!

Re: Preliminary Results of SH Scope Database

BigBrother,

Great job on the spreadsheet! Saw some binocs in there (??). You did state KIS.

For your consideration: To avoid confusion, maybe make Sheet 1 Scopes and Sheet 2 Binocs & LRF?
