Preparing factory new brass vs fired

I have been doing a lot of reading on brass prep (excellent resources here on the stickies), but don't find much that compares preparing new factory brass vs. once fired.

I'm working up a lot of 150 Winchester 308 cases. With a Precision Mic they all Mic beautifully at about -.003 inches.

Do I need to run them through the sizer, and if so, set them back how far for a gas gun?

If they all measure 2.005 - 2.010 (inside SAAMI spec) do they need to be trimmed and/or chamfered/deburred?

Thank you!

Dont set them back at all, run them to were the case mouth just irons out the shipping dents that happen to the mouth, chamfer and deburr and rock on.

Re: Preparing factory new brass vs fired

I do the same as Victor. However, I have my dies set up for my chamber, so new brass doesn't get the shoulder bumped back at all unless it is way out of spec. Instead, it does as deadly indicated and just rounds the neck out if it had any dents. I don't use a mandrel, so I find that I need to run the case up in the die twice (at times) to get neck fully back into round. I just received a forster 3 in 1 cutter head for my trimmer, so I will be trimming, chamfering, and deburring all in one step. I know alot of people trim after 3-5 firings...that tool lets me do it every time while I am performing two necessary operations for any reloading session. I have to look into a Giraud once the funds come free. Who knew you inherit so much debt when you get married?
