I have been using a Sinclair primer pocket uniformer on the Rem and Win brass that I have for various calibers. I picked up a custom rifle and decided to step up to Lapua brass. Would you also recommend uniforming the primer pockets of the Lapua brass, or is this brass of high enough quality that this is not necessary? I have been using the uniformed to clean the primer pockets after each firing. Should I continue to do this with the Lapua brass, or just use the old Lee primer pocket cleaner that I have? Or is there a prefered method? Thanks.

Re: Primer pocket uniformer

The lapua brass is some of the best money can buy but they still have a tiny radius in the primer pockets that certainly won't complain if you cut them square with your Sinclair uniformer.

Re: Primer pocket uniformer

For BR results, and competition, I proably would say yes. For me I mostly shoot tactical matches, so I don't pay much attention to that. It won't make that much of a difference for me if it's 1/2 MOA, or 1/4 MOA. Besides, my AIAW is not a 1/4 MOA stick anyway.

If you have already got it, you might as well use it

I say use it. I had one box of 100 Lapua .338 brass that had one shallow primer pocket. Shallow enough that the bolt would not close on the chambered round. Uniformity. The name of the game. JMHO

Re: Primer pocket uniformer

I agree.

If I was shooting a semi and going thru lots of brass and not saving it, two things would be different. One, I wouldn't be using Lapua brass and two, I probably wouldn't take the time to uniform the primer pockets.

Since I pretty much only use Lapua brass, and we all know how expensive it is, I uniform the pockets and also use a Sinclair flash hole deburring tool that goes in thru the neck. You can do 100's of pieces of brass in an hour or less.

IMHO, Lapua brass is the very best I can buy but even as good as it is, it's still not perfect.

Re: Primer pocket uniformer

I uniform all my pockets , more for piece of mind (it dosnt matter much w/ lapua brass) , and for ease of cleaning. I clean my pockets w/ the uniformer it does a good job fast.
