Primers

Re: Primers

dar,

Many thanks for the link!

For the time being I'll just keep my fingers crossed for 8# of Varget and a measly 3K primers.

I placed a previous order with Powder Valley, almost 2 months ago now, and they have not come through yet. Guessing I'll keep that order as backup since when I called last week they weren't expecting 8# jugs of Varget until sometime in July... I'm assuming they meant '09.

Re: Primers

Greg,

Hardly hoarding here... I'm down to about a pound of Varget and 200 LR primers. After that "Nada"... Nothing left.

An 8# jug to cover me for both .223 and .308 with a few SR and LR primers seems hardly foolhardy. I figure, after sharing with a friend, I'll likely need that next 8# jug in July too.

The reality is that I doubt they will be able to supply the goods.

Cheers

The answering machine tells you to use the web site.

That's why I didn't order from them.

No People = No Service = No Order.

same experience. can't get connected via phone. Anyone actually get primers yet?

Re: Primers

I know TNT personally. He's a 1 man show and totally swamped. His shop hours are about 8 hours per week because he's trying to ship stuff.

Tony responds to emails sometimes, but lately he's been shipping 100% of the time and super busy. Generally his site is out of date because he can't get the information to my uncle (who maintains the new site) fast enough for it to be reliable. My uncle does it as a friend and a favor, so compared to Cabela's site, it's lacking.

If you order something it will ship, it might take 10 days, but it will ship.

Re: Primers

You would think that if he is that busy, he would hire some help! I am sure there is are people that can look at a order, look at a part number, put it in a box, slap some tape on it and print out a UPS label.

Re: Primers

I guess he has a guy that helps 1 day a week, but I don't think he's ready to hire some idiot kid for 10 bucks an hour as a shipper. Imagine the hell that we'd all give him for shipping 4k instead of 5k of the wrong primer.

"I ordered 5k BR4's and you sent 4k BR2's"

He's about 20 mins from my parent's house, so if I need something I just tell my dad to go pick it up on the way home from work.

I use to work as a shipper when I was going to school and we always had multiple checks when closing a package. One person pull the order, someone else check to make sure the parts are correct and boxes up the part. I think even with Midways fancy automated system, they still have someone that checks every box that goes out. That I would guess when I see check marks on my reciept.

Same here - I called before I ordered to verify if their website was correct but their answering machine said due to the volume no phone orders were being taken and to use the website, so I rolled the dice.

Waiting with bated breath

Re: Primers

Good luck guys, if he has it, it will ship, no doubt about that. I last talked to him a couple weeks ago at the Valley Forge show, he said his monthly order of primers (500k per type) hasn't changed but he's lucky if he gets 100k per month now.

I'm not making excuses for his site's out of date problems, I know they're there, I'm just trying to inform about the business you're working with. He's a standup guy, if he can send it, it goes. If he can't then Tribe's situation happens, and it happened fast right?

Re: Primers

Just got the email, what I ordered is not in stock and my order has been canceled.

Sonofamutherfukinbitch.....

Who in the hell is hoarding all of the fucking primers? All I want is a couple thousand, hell I'd be happy with 500 right now so that I can do a little load development for my new .223AI.

It'd be one thing if the sound of gun fire was echoing from sea to shining sea but it ain't. All you hear is the sound of ammo cans slamming shut as people stash all of the brass, bullets, powder and primers they can get their hands on. If people were actually using this shit I'd be thrilled but instead they're stashing it for a "rainy day".

The offer is heartfelt and much appreciated. It just frustrates me to think about how many of these primers will sit in garages for the next couple of years before being sold off once some of the goofs figure out that they bought more than they'll shoot in 40 years.

I've got no problem with those who will actually use them, I just suspect the majority will not use what they have.

Re: Primers

Well I posted this for people who didnt have any primers. If you live in Michagin. There is a place called Guns And Galore you can look them up on the internet. The only thing is the only sell to walkins and 1k per custormer. Another place was in PA had some federal mag lrs for sell. Good luck If you want primers you have to look everywhere.

Picked up another 6k since the photo was taken

Re: Primers

....and I may be considered "guilty" with my 4200 or so LR primers, but I do normally shoot at least 50 rounds of 308 almost every weekend.

I used to only keep 1k or 2k of each type but I was down to only 100 LR primers when I finally found some a few weeks back.
I would get my SR inventory that high if I could find them, mainly because doing without sucks. I'd rather be overstocked and help out a bud when needed than go without.

Re: Primers

There's a big difference in someone who shoots 5K rounds a year having 5K primers and someone who shoots 500 rounds a year having 50K primers. Seems to be a lot more of the latter these days, if not the supply vs demand wouldn't be so out of whack.

Re: Primers

Yeah, but the thing is, primers are relatively cheap. A guy can go out and grab 1k here, 1k there, and really feel like he's socking away for a rainy day. The more scarce they become, the more growing your little stash makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Most people really don't accumulate a stockpile of anything of any significance in their life, so it makes your dick twitch to be able to say "Oh yeah, I've got 50k primers," especially when you know the whole world is sold out of them. you feel safe and secure knowing you have SOMETHING socked away as the economy tumbles and much of our country realizes it's been living beyond it's means the last decade or so.

Re: Primers

Nothing to do with "TnT", but I can't help but wonder if the primer shortage is a combination of a few things....hoarding and record ammo sales. All of that ammo takes primers also.

BTW, I ordered some Winc. primers, so we'll see if they come. Got the "Your Order Was Successful" e-mail. Made me feel better....until I read this thread....

Re: Primers

I'm not surprised that the guy who ordered 20k of them got his order cancelled. If TnT had them he probably canceled your order so he could sell to 10 customers who only ordered 2k each.

Walk-ins he limits to 2k per type so that 1 guy doesn't walk up and buy every primer in the place. He's been doing that just because of how people have been acting. A year ago I walked in and bought 10k of small rifle to split between my dad, uncle and myself. He gave me a price break on them at that point.

On Weavers in Saylorsburg, PA. He probably has them, I can't stand the guy as a person, he's a very opinionated and if your opinion on something is different for whatever reason, he tells you your an idiot. If you want to try something out on your own and it differs from his advice, he will tell you that you're an idiot and treat you like a turd in his shop. I bought primers from him simply because he had them.

His prices on guns are good, his prices on primers are alright, loaded ammo is alright. His attitude has stopped me from buying 5 firearms through him since December. The last time I was in there I was carrying my G29 under a jacket, I leaned over to tie my sneakers and he saw the grip protrude. Instantly he has his hand on his revolver and is telling me to slowly draw and clear the weapon in his shop. Then he snatches it from me, checks it to be clear and tells me not to load it till after I leave.

He acted worse than a twitchy cop, I won't deal with him.

And rightfully so IMO.. No one needs 20K primers of any kind at one time, especially when others are trying to find them as well and can't cause you try and buy the whole lot.. Again JMO..

Re: Primers

I was at a gun show on Sat. and ask a guy if he had any primers. He stated he only sell primers with bullets. He was an ass. I don't need any primers but always ask anyway just to see. The small ma and pa stores is the best bet for locating primers. I have found some here and thier. Get on the internet and check out your state gun dealers and then surrounding states. It is some phone work but it will pay off.
