Primers

Keep your eye out. I snagged some large rifle from Powder Valley this week. I also suggest checking your local gun shops if you have some. I stepped into a small hole-in-the wall in my area today, and he was loaded with reloading supplies. He was only allowing purchase of a few packs of primers at a time, but he had several cases on the shelves and more in storage. He was trying to share the wealth with as many people as possible

Large rifle...especially magnum....seem pretty plentiful around here.....small rifle comes and goes....pistol primers are impossible to find locally. I usually go to Sportsmans Warehouse a few times a week...just to get out of the house on my off days...and I'll grab a box of 1000 FGMM 215m's or 210M's while I'm there...they limit 1 per customer....I'll pick up a bottle of powder if I have a reasonable use for what they have in stock.

I have followed some advice I received here concerning finding primers. First, understand there are only four or so primer manufacturers in the US. Most of the primers produced are going to ammo production. A good example would be Federal. Federal and the other producers have contracts with other ammo manufacturers who don't produce their own primers. I say all of that to say that primers for reloading are at the bottom. Second, you can sign up notification with online retailers to be notified when they come back in stock. I personally don't depend on that option. I got an email from an online retailer this week notifying me that some bullets I wanted were in stock. I got the email at 2 p.m. and opened it at 2:20 p.m. Bullets gone--probably to some of you guys... 😡Third, check with your local gun shop 2 or 3 times a week. I have been able to find two cases (1000 primers each) for small rifle and one for small pistol (a unicorn) even though it is a magnum. Also found some 45ACP bullets. It is going to take a lot of effort to find primers but you will get lucky on occasion.

I ordered two boxes of 205m in March, online from a retailer. Supposedly in stock. A week later, I received an email saying they were on back order with no known date, did I still want them. While I really needed them then, checking elsewhere got me nothing so I told them to keep me on back order. I finally received them late July, but at least I have them now.

So right now my opinion is if you need primers, find someone who is willing to put them on back order for you and place the order. Just don’t expect them in a hurry. Best if you can forget about them altogether until the arrive.
