Problem with AR 10 Feeding.

Problem with AR 10 Feeding. My friend is having a problem with his newly built AR 10. It will not pick up a round and when it does it jams on the upper side of the breech. It appears the bolt does not go back far enough? We are not sure. The bolt is picking up the round forward of the head in the grove and pushing the round nose up into the breach where all the groves are. We know a lot of cycling is recommended however, we are not sure we have the correct length buffer? Any suggestions would be truly appreciated.

Does the bolt go back far enough to engage the bolt hold open?
Can you hand cycle it?

Does not cycle without jam, BHO is not working, bolt is hold open by the carrior?

need alot more info about the rifle(the build specs),the ammo and what mags you are using....

the bolt face,is where it makes contact to the bolt catch

PRS stock, JD lower, RRA upper with chrome bolt, ammo has been stock american eagel. PMC, home reloads to SAMMI specs. Magpul and DPMS mags. Could be under gased but will not "HAND CYCLE"

If you used an AR15 buffer instead of the AR10, it's 11/16" too long, might be why your BHO doesn't work properly.

AR10 = 5 3/16"

AR15 = 5 7/8"
