I bought a replacement bolt knob from Kevin Rayhill to put on my new Savage 10 Predator. I finally got the back unscrewed and put the new knob on. Now I can't get the firing pin to cock. Actually it won't move at all.

I've tried putting the original knob back on and still have the same problem. Has anyone run into this?

FYI the new Savage's have the cocking indicator on the back of the bolt.

Re: Problem with Savage bolt

So the Bolt it's self won't "Cock" ? As in you can't put it back in the gun ?

When you remove the BAS, you "Un Cock" the bolt. You have to re cock it by sliding the lil round gimmick Up the ramp till it cams over.

The bolt won't automatically cock itself when you try to put it back in the action. I had to use a flat head screwdriver to recock the bolt before I changed the knob.

Now, the round knob on the bolt that cocks the firing pin won't move at all. Like it is locked in place.

Re: Problem with Savage bolt

The bolt is cocked when you remove from the action.

Savage 110/10 bolts cock when opening.

You need to have the bolt cocked to place it back into the action. Does that make sense? Its either that or we are misunderstanding the problem.

Re: Problem with Savage bolt

Yes that makes sense and I know that. What I am saying is that I can't cock it. Before removing the bolt knob it was easy to cock/de-cock. Now it won't cock after pulling the back part off the bolt

No, I can't get the firing pin to re-cock

Re: Problem with Savage bolt

ok do this. back out the Bolt Assembly Screw a few turns to see if that makes the cocking easier or the cocking pin peice easier to move? is it not moveable at all is what you are saying?

Ok, I cocked the bolt with the BAS out. Then I put the bolt into the rifle and tightened the BAS in as far as I could. I then dry-fired it to let the cocking indicator down so I could finish screwing in the BAS. This seemed to work, BUT!! now the firing pin only drops 80% of the time while dry firing.

I know with 100% certainty when I removed the BAS that I didn't lose anything.

OK. I guess the BAS wasn't tight enough. However, it still doesn't work with the aftermarket bolt handle.

Re: Problem with Savage bolt

whats the aftermarket handle look like? whats not working? now the firing pin isnt 100%? can you take it all apart and inspect everything? at least as far as you did earlier to do this bolt handle swap. you say aftermarket bolt handle but i see a factory savage large bolt knob.

its easier to cock the cocking pin piece when that BAS is loose and then torque it down, but i dont have a cocking indicator gun so i cant say here whats up, but id have to guess its just a longer assembly than my 10fcp and a hollow BAS so the back end of the pin will stick out?
