I just recieved my new BDX1800 from Brownells. Straight out of the box, i installed the battery and it wouldn't come on. I flipped the battery, still nothing. Flipped it back and it did come on. I went outside and tried ranging things around. (3pm in the afternoon, partly cloudy) i could range a few trees out to about 350 but that was it. I tried a house roof about 500-600 yards away and nothing. I could not find anything that it would range beyond about 360 yards.

The problem with it waking up continued. I literally hit the button 15-20 times and it wouldn't wake up.

Obviously this one is going back but my question is about the distance. I thought this one would at least be able to range a house roof, trees around it, at about 500 yards. Has anyone used one of these and what distances are you able to get? Im considering upping to the BDX2200 but this one has really disappointed me.

    Any other suggestions on LRFs?

    See my #9 post.

If you want the marriage of RF and ballistics try for a used 2200BDX. On the other hand if you're looking for a straight dependable RF aroung $400 nothing comes close to the Nikon Black 4000K. It does provide angle info and mine sometimes outranged my Terrapin X and 2400ABS--and never the reverse. I picked it up for $349 just to see if it was all hype and intended to return it if found so. It wasn't and I'm keeping it as a back up. It's the most rangefinder for the money that I've seen.

338, Brownells is showing the Nikon at $449... Im not needing the ballistic link at this point.

If I can up my budget, would the Nikon 4000 or the Leica 2400, Vortex 4000 (@ $500) be better?

Unfamiliar with the Vortex. I play around with various RFs to get better and better photos through them; tonight's NIK4000k.JPG examples are first:

Game just changed. I'm going to get to go to my states Advanced Sniper course in Oct.

I'll up my budget to $500.

Whats the best choice between the Vortex 4000 and Leica 2400? Im leaning toward the Vortex for the lifetime warranty.
